Question what pump for closed loop?

i have been desperately comparing pumps for a closed loop and i need advice desperately.

the system will be a 50g with a mag 9 return pump, and has a drilled hole for the intake. i want to keep almost entirely SPS corals, but i will have a SSB for aesthetic reasons. i am looking at either the Gen-X mak 4, the eheim 1262 hobby pump, or the quiet one 6000. it will be external(obviously), and will have pretty much no headloss as it will be placeddirectly behind the tank, so there is no height is has to rise to. i am also considering making a manifold, but i don't know.

TIA for the help.

You will have a hard time keeping your sandbed put with a hammerhead. I would do a sequence sart or snapper at most, but even that is pushing it.

I would agree that a snapper or dart would be a good choise for your tank.

The dart would save you a few bucks on the e bill compared to the hammerhead or barracuda. When drilling the tank you may consider drilling two suction holes(intakes) that way the sucton is reduced and smaller fish won't be sucked up agenst the screen fitting. Wished I would have done that.

IF you have room you can put a tee then a short run of pipe on each end. This will slow the inlet velosity.

i wouldnt put a dart on a 50g.i use 2 darts on my 150g,one is on a closed loop with a homemade OM 6 way(3 ports open at once)and the flow is very strong.i think it would be too much on your tank.the snapper might be a better choice.

hi I'am seting up a new tank too. also doing a close loop, the tank is 70 gallons I just got the pan world 50 px-x I hope that will be enough flow. those sequence pumps seem to strong my pump is going to T off to two 3/4 returns.

that's the thing, i don't want it too strong. is it entirely necessary to have a sequence pump. they're pretty pricey from my point of view, and it just seems like overkill.

if you guys had to suggest a smaller, non sequence pump, what would you recomend?

would it be acceptable?

i think it would be ok,1100gph in a 50g is roughly 22x turnover from the closed loop alone.i assume you will have a sump with a return pump as well,so turnover should be 40x range.if you can,try to find something in the 1500gph range for the loop pump in your price range.this should get you to 50x + turnover which IMO would be best.

Im using a mag 24 for my closed loop on my 55 reef tank. Never had any leaks from the pump, adds a little noise though.

I have a PCX40 on my 58 gal running the OM Super Squirt. I don't think it's enough flow, I would have gone to the Snapper if I'd known how it would work out. Just my 02 cents
