Question Another question for electronics engineers.

I'm just full of questions. So, rather than spamming this board, can someone direct me to a board similar to ReefCentral for electronics hobbyists?

I'm looking for component level forums. Like, say I had a pile of ICs and wanted to turn them into a computer. I could care less about AV stuff.

Depends on what the ICs are. You cant take a pile of rusty bolts and make a car, (chevys excluded here). it takes a lot of different components. Same thing with electronic components.

Just go to google and google the partnumber of the IC, it should be printed on it. something like an LM74LS00 or anything like that . just google it, you will probalby find a million hits for each one.

You're misunderstanding me. I'm looking for a message board, like RC, that specializes in the electronics hobby. NOT a computer board or a A/V board, but rather one where the members like to build electronics gadgets from the component level. This used to be common place. The hobby has dwindled in recent years with the advent of surface mount components, but there are still quite a few of us around.

This is really why I mentioned electronics engineers in the title. They would have a better understanding of what I'm looking for.

MarkS,

Sorry for the really-really tardy reply.

I have not been on this board for a long time.

Pretty sad as I used to be a Moderator here…

In any case, I am not familiar with a discussion board like you are asking about. Interesting as I am a hardware engineer and am actually in the process of prototyping a test instrument for my company. (Component level design)

Drop me an e-mail at spasse@feccommunications.net

It will take me a day or two to respond as I cannot access this e-mail account from work.

Regards,
