Anyone have a Live rock growout system

Well i guess i am the only person on reef central that will have a live rock growout system

With so many people getting in and out of this hobby, cheap LR has never really been a problem. It regularly goes for $3 a lb for established LR and even less if you buy in bulk. I'm not sure how you could make a profit on it.

3$ a lb must be nice. lfs around here go for 7-8$ a lb. eh, Maybe Im just cheap. perhaps cured live rock is worth 7-8$ a lb

Where are you looking? I see it for 3-4 a pound on craigslist. Also if you can find someone selling their whole setup, you can normally get the rock for less than that, after you sell off their equipment.

Thanx....I have plenty of rock it's all dried up now but will eventually be living. It was really an experiment i was gonna try with a rubbermade tub nothing real serious just wanted to see what results i could get and what other people might have.

I have one...I call it my sump though...it's about 100G with about 2-3 thousand gallons/hr of circulation. I'm pretty sure my live rocks are real happy.

What is a liverock grow out system. What is the purpose of this system?

Fresh (not "cured") live rock is way way better. Usually the cured stuff at the LFS places is so lacking in flora/fauna that you might as well just make your own live rock. At least then you could get some really good shapes.

I'm assuming the purpose is to let the live rock cure and establish the life on it.

If you are going with fresh live rock, it would be good to place it in a holding tank other than your established reef so you don't get the huge nutrient spike. If you want to maintain as much biodiversity as possible, you would maintain the holding tank like you do your reef tank.
