no I dont use sand. The place I got it let it get burried in the sand and for that reason I almost missed it. I saw just a little piece sticking out of the sand, so i offered to save it

Okay, just wondering if this material would be okay to use. I can't afford Polycarbonate, so I found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Greenhouse-12x7x...QQcmdZViewItem

Im not planning on purchasing this, just curious if something of that nature would work well for a non-permanent small-scale GH.
Thanks.

fishboy I have never seen that before but there is no real security in a structure like that. By that I mean storm security as well as keeping unwanted people from entering. I think if I was on a buget I would try something like the clear roof panels they sell at lowes or hd either it be fiberglass or plastic it would offer better security. If its not permanent you could build a shed type structure on skids and actually build it like a small shed and just use clear panels insead of plywood. On the roof as well as the walls. For strength you could criss-cross galvenized flat strapping on the framework. Then when you move you have the option of calling and flatbed and taking it with you

using manual settings now redox? NICE!

If you have a tripod....

Bump your f-stop up past 8 (higher the better)
Play with ISO between 100-200
Set your shutter speed to level out the light meter.

Use Manual Focus!!

Even if you have to set the shutter to stay open for a few seconds (only with low motion shots) you will be amazed at the color you will get.

Here's a pic of a mushroom I took a few weeks back.

Those were shot with a regular lens (no macro) from a tripod under 14k Halides with a Canon EOS Digital Cam.

Ok, I'll quit littering up your cool *** thread now.. Later!

you can see how the coraline took over the areas that died .I aquired this colony right before the heat exchanger addition. This colony was totally alive when I recieved it[IMG][/IMG]

rusty I have no clue what you just said but from your pics I really should try to understand. pictures for dummies should come to mind for you when you are talking to me. Does that help

hehe... you kill me!! I would say read the manual for you camera but I think I'd rather poke my eyes out with a frozen butter knife than do that myself. Just tink around with it. You could look up shutter speed or f stop in you manual just to see how to manually adjust them. Learn one at a time, play with the settings to see what gives you the best pics, then before you know it you'll have a good grasp on how it works... not that hard really, just a bit intimidating at first....... kinda like trying to take the step up to a greenhouse

The point of having something small and easy to take down is (worse case scenario) a large hurricane is heading towards us and I can tear it down and move the frags to my tank inside. I dont think that anything would be able to withstand a cat 3+ storm. As far as security, its a safe neighborhood and the location is concealed..even though i probably shouldnt think of this as protection...My last problem is my horrible DIY skills..I will research further and post back with more questions...
