Too much Skimming?

OK so I decided to jump back into reefing and I feel like a "newbie" all over again.

I have a question that is bothering me. Is it possible to have too much skimming on a reef tank?

I found a good deal on a new Octopus NW-200 for around $175. I bought it and it came in the mail today. This thing is bigger than I thought and has me rethinking my sump design.

Is this skimmer going to be too big for a total water volume of 100+/- gallons?

I assumed always get bigger because tank upgrades are inevitable. I just remember my skimmer being alot smaller on my 125. Maybe it was just underskimmed.

should be ok its rated for a 200 gallon. The rule of thumb from what I have seen on here and a post that I recently read is get a skimmer rated 2x your water volume. SO you are on point. good luck

The concept of overskimming has been debated for years...

My skimmer is way overkill on my tank (H&S A150) on a 40Breeder... Works fine, corals are happy.

If you feel its removing to much from your water you can run it on a timer, or have it skim dryer.

Personally, I don't think you can ever over skim, but that's just my opinion.

I agree with the others, I have a ASM-g3 on a 37gal. I'm happy!!!!

i think it depends on the corals.if you are overskimming and everything looks great don't fix what isn't broken

i have a remora on my 24g, and i am very pleased with the results. darkest skimmate i have ever gotten and all of my corals are in full bloom
