Finally!!!!

Well after waiting for 7mths (was quoted 6 weeks ) I finally received my little skimmer for the system I'm setting up.

[IMG][/IMG]

It's a Volcano Skimmer made by Spazz here on RC. I needed a skimmer to handle a possible total system volm of upwards of a 1,000 gallons and this ended up being the most economical and most productive choice IMHO. It should be able to handle whatever I throw at it.

Here are some of the features. Some are standard and some I requested, which is a nice thing about having a skimmer custom made.

Diffuser Plate

Auto Shutoff
[IMG][/IMG]

Carbon Filter for that funky smell
[IMG][/IMG]

Drain for the collection cup

Newly designed wetneck

Token shot w/ my Min Pin

There is also a drain at the bottom of the skimmer, so it can be totally drained for cleaning.

For those of you who are not familiar w/ this skimmer, let me give you some more info. It has custom designed Dart needle wheel made and tested by Spazz, which requires a special housing to be made by Baldor. It's approximately 18" wide and 4 & 1/2 feet tall. It will hold around 40 gal when in operation.

That thing is incredible! The skimmer has some very nice extras too. I really like the carbon filter idea, nice touch.

Yes it will be around 1000gal. When I got back into the hobby we were renting and I was going to set up a 75gal, but we were going to buy a house in the next year. So I just upgrade my tank at work to a 65gal total volume system. This system will have a 330 display, (possibly adding another on in the future) 150 sump, frag tank(s?) and surge tanks.

I believe the Dart will pull around 120watt's once it gets dialed in.

I need to say my wonderful wife Nancy is almost as into the hobby as I am. That's why I get to do all these crazy things.

Where's the pull cord to start that monster?

It looks like N.A.S.A. holds the patent....

Question. If thats is good for 1000+ what the hell do I need for 1600+? I'm thinking a small silo ran by a V-10 with a needle-flywheel would be the next step up...

Nice skimmer!

He does make larger skimmers too IF you have the time to wait. My friend in the Twin Cities who is opening a LFS is getting 5 of them. 2 of them being 6 foot models and the other 3 are "baby" ones like mine.

I was, but my wife was worse. Of course we paid 50% down and we thought we had thrown away a lot of money if we had to go elsewhere. It really has made this project slow down, I expected to have my live rock cooked and ready to go when I received my tank. That plan is now down the toilet.

Benjie-that skimmer looks AWESOME! I read this thread at work, but the hospital has the fotos blocked out. I couldn't wait to get home to see them! I am looking forward to see seeing fotos of your tank when it is set up.

That skimmer is insane!

BTW: That Oceanic Sump is too large so I will have to bring that out to ya. How long 'till you have the system filled with sand, rock, and fish?

Obviously I'm in no hurry for that sump, so whenever is fine.

Not sure when I'm going to have this up and running, I just keep on having set backs. I wait 6 mths longer for my skimmer, getting the wrong thickness of plastic to weld my sump, and finishing the workroom in the basement. If I can do a water test by the end of this month I'll be happy. That would have me putting corals in it around sometime in April. BUT we'll see how everything goes.

Hey, don't forget to throw my new system in there for tasks too!

If I try and do things myself, I end up messing them up ... kinda like my RO Membrane housing incident yesterday! Hope RandalB can help with a new piece!

Nothing too bad. I just tore the plastic restrictor off inside of the Membrane housing. Just need a new restrictor and some careful work with a needle nose to remove the torn piece out of the housing. Of course, I'm in need of water when this happens! Good thing I can help myself to the neighbors RO/DI water while he's away traveling!
