I would run only as much water through the sump as the skimmer can handle(unless you have a HUGE skimmer). if your skimmer does 800gph you don't want 1500gph running through your sump. The more water you run through the sump the harder it is to fine tune everything and make it quiet as well.

I would go the CL route on an oceans motion or maybe 2 wavy seas or sea swirls and maybe a Koralia 4 or comparable on the bottom to keep all the detritus in suspension. Vortech's are nice but the outside gets too hot for me with kids around.
