Light placement help

I have a AGA RR 75 gal 48x18x20. Im picking up a hamilton MH hood with 2- 175watt MH's, 2 -110 watt VHO's A. blues and built in fans. My question is how high off the water should the lights be without glass tops? I currently have 4 VHO's powered by a icecap 660 ballest sitting 6 inche's above the water and my tank stays around 74 without a heater on it.

6-8" should be fine unless you have some large fish that may splash water that may hit the bulbs then you may want about 8-10"

I have my SE 175's at * inches above water surface, and never get any splash on bulbs

Hmm, I think the biggest fish I add to my tank will prob. be a yellow tang. Thanks for the advise I think I will go 6-8 inches above the water.
