Clown Eggs - need help

My clown's have laid some eggs on the rock beside one of my anemone's. The clown fish appear to be eating the eggs. Do you have any suggestions. I have zero experience in raising any type of fish any help or suggestions you could provide would be great.

Thanks

Here is a pic of the eggs.

Feed your fish more often. Seperate the eggs from the main tank if you want any chance of them living.

When and how.

Can I just siphon them off. Of course they are on my center piece rock and I can't just take it out.

First of all buy this book if you want to raise them 'Clownfishes by Joyce D. Wilkerson'
Then visit this forum
http://reefcentral.com/forums/forumd...php?forumid=36

Since they're orange they're probably just laying them. Fanning and mouthing them is just taking care of them Not alot you can do right now. Just watch them develope.

If you're prepared to raise them you can siphon out the babies right after they hatch. People also put in smooth tiles for them to lay on so they can pull the tiles just before they are going to hatch.

a lot of research and prep. if your not already set up to raise them, just watch this batch and start keeping track of the spawn cycle,, get your food started and be ready for the batch after next, in other words if you start now, you will be ready to raise the third batch

We are going to be out of town when they hatch so we will see if they do it again.

I was at a friends house this weekend and we were talking about fish tank and he had a 20 gallon tank with equipment he wasn't using and gave it to me. It came with a heater, air pump, hob filter. It also came with some other freshwater food and stuff.

I'm going to try and get a copy of the book and read up. I don't know if I will be successful but it's worht a shot.

Thanks

I returned from vacation and found that the eggs still have not hatched. They were laid sometime between the Dec 12 and 14th. We are talking like 20-21 days ago. I read that they should hatch around day 8. The eggs are almost clear now and the eyes are very bright silver colour. My only thought is that this is a new batch of eggs. Do they actually lay eggs that frequently.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

they can lay eggs every 12 days or so, depending on tank temp. once they get into a routine they will lay eggs like clockwork as long as you dont disturb them by moving things around, changing lights ect...

if you really want to try to raise them get the book dc mentioned and take your time and read up on it.

if they are laying them in the same spot i would get a 4"x4" tile and then the night these eggs hatch(or the next batch) while the lights are still out slip the tile into the tank rough side out right where they have been laying the eggs and let them lay them on the tile a few times. then in the future if you do want to raise them, the night they are supposed to hatch you remove the tile to you larval rearing tank and let them hatch in there.

Putting a tile there won't disturb them.

Also, The book is already on order.

Thanks

if you slip it in when the lights are out right after the eggs hatch it shouldn't bother them but it might and then again they might not even lay the eggs on the tile.

its just a lot easier to collect them that way then collecting them by hand. we do it both ways and collecting them by hand can make for a really late night.

What everybody has said here is spot on, and the book is great (I often find myself sitting down and reading it again and again). Here is a thread you can read to hold you over until the book arrives.

My Clownfish just laid eggs. Now What?

I thought I had posted this already.

Anyway thanks for the link.

All the eggs had hatched by this morning so I slipped a piece of tile over their nesting location.

I picked up 2 10 gallon tanks last night.

I also have cleaned 2 2 litre bottles ready to start some phyto tonight.

Thanks

After reading, I gather you probably picked up that the eggs you saw on your return were probably the second batch, right?

I never actually saw them hatching.

I have almost 50X turnover in my tank so they would have been smoked pretty quick.

The LFS has to order them. I figured I would put the order in next week for them, once my Phyto gets going.

My clowns spawn every two weeks or so, and I just let nature take its course because it seems to dificult to raise them. Let us know how it turns out.

It is way to costly for me to order from the US being in Canada. Some things you cant even get without permits. My LFS can get me live rotifers for 20 bucks within 3 days. Thanks for the link.

Let me know how it works out. I know it won't be for along time, but I'd like to eventually have the setup to breed some clowns.
