What "unknown" are you talking about? The Atlantis Unknown?

I'm all confused.

No way this is a lord. The polyps are a good 4-6 times bigger than any of my lord colonies. I wouldn't think many, if any, corals bud off babies or polyps as big as the parent polyps. I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say.

I think it is a very nice coral. But Acan maximas reproduce by a method called fission, splitting into two separate parts, which then develop into 2 completely independent entities. Al

Zeppelin: did you get it? Was it in good condition? Whatever it is, it looks very nice.

I have that one. I'll take a pic and post it. My lights are off for the night so it'll have to be tomorrow.

We're talking about the orange and green one right?

Yes,
Right there in the middle. Be careful with it. If it is really slimy when you pick it up, it was the same one that I had. You got some nice lords in there.

I haven't had any problems with it. Cross my fingers and knock on wood. That lord next to it, sometimes they touch.

Thank you for the compliments.

The texture on the polyps are different then most acans. I'm gonna snap a close up pic today so you folks can see.

Did anyone else see the piece Extreme Corals had for sale as a maxima from the Walt Smith collection? It was very drab colored but the polyps weren't very irregularly shaped.

I suppose the only way to know for sure is to collect one from Oman yourself...but then it may literally cost you an arm and a leg if you got caught.

This is one of my morphs. Many people called this a maxima when I bought it. That fish is 1.50 inches long. I personally think it is just a regular acan with no neighbor polyps. Thus it is free to expand as much as it likes.

Dark Lord Coral has the mother colony of that piece and it's amazing

I'm surprised Jimmy parted with that. Did you get his whole collection?

Ya, all his LPS..
Are you sure he has the whole colony of this morph?
This polyp is 3" across when expanded with multiple mouths. I looked on his site & I didnt see it.
If he does have it, I would love to see a colony pic!

They got banned so you won't see a pic from them here.

I know for sure they have it, Jimmy & Mike know each other.

I just talked to Elizabeth at DLCC:

"None of our pics will be on RC because they banned us for a rediculous reason, over a fish out of our personal display when we first started the businesss"

I'm staying out of that one

That doesn't look anything close to any of the pics I have seen in Whelks, etc. A couple characteristics of Maxima are more drab colors, and HUGE polyp extension, with polyp extension over 2-3 times the size of the polyp closed. Never seen anything published showing bright oranges or greens, etc.
