Maybe we will have pictures of the new sump and Marc in goggles and safety glass's with acrylic glue sticking his fingers together..

I think they should take away all the cookies he got for the thread getting so big! Make him proove how consistant his informative and valuable information really is. I mean really .. Its not like he should be sponsored by vendors for promoting anything but floor cleaner... WAX ON WAX OFF!

Ok, I guess I should send a reply here just to stay connected or lose the posts being emailed to me since part 1 is elsewhere.

Okay, tonight I took a little time to try and rescue a patch of zoanthids. These are the kind with a large headed-polyp. Over the past couple of months, I've noticed my asterinas all over the tank and occasionally I'd see one right on the tip of one zoanthid - which would be closed up like a grape with that starfish sitting on it like a hat.

Well, for the past few days, those zoos haven't not opened up much at all, and a few polyps looked like they are ready to melt away. Tonight I pulled out the patch, and carefully removed at least 15 asterinas and 3 large bristleworms which were all dumped into the refugium. The starfish blend in quite well with the zoos themselves and made it tough to recognize them several times.

I moved the zoos to the opposite side of the tank, hoping they'll get a reprieve for now. I removed another 20 starfish that I could find, and dumped them in the fuge as well.

After injecting about 20 or more aptasia with kalkpaste, I thought I'd take a few pictures while the pumps were off. Unfortunately, most were worthless. This is the best picture of the group.

And I recently mentioned that I found a very strange little creature in my zoos. Now this won't stand out for you until you stare at the picture for a few seconds. It appears to be what I've found referred to as an "Orange Ball Anemone". I did a google search, and the pages I found it listed it was stated that it is not an anemone at all, but is in the mushroom family. It tends to only come out at night to feed. I have a few tiny ones in the refugium that are not in a spot to photograph them, and am now seeing them here and there in my reef since I know what I'm looking for. They are never out when the lights are on. If I ever get a remote flash, I might be able to get a decent picture of this creature. Just know that the torso of this 'anemone' is clear, and the tip of each branch has the small tiny colorful orange ball. Dead center, if you can find it looking at this picture, there is a small mouth that is a vertical line. I know this one is very tough to see!

And the other thing is unknown currently. I thought it might be a nudibranch but it doesn't seem to be moving at all. I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe it is a tiny clam.

Speaking of Nudibranchs, I still come across my Lettuce Nudibranchs from time to time.

Marc,
Could that be a spiny oyster? Also, do you have any peppermint shrimp in your tank? I wonder if they would control these ball anemones/mushrooms?

Afternoon Marc. Hope the sump building for your tank is going well.

I wanted to update you on the Dolabella's. They are both dead. Can not figure it out. They had plenty of algae to eat. They ate one tiny rock as mentioned a couple weeks back and did not touch anymore. I changed nothing in the tank while they were in. Not even a water change until today after I found the second one dead. I plucked hair algae for 3 hours this morning since they did not do there job.

Then I went to the LFS to pick up some more snails and see what they had for corals. I did pick up a nice large Fungia. I will try and post pics later after he opens up. I also picked up a Conch snail. Small one. He appears to be eating the hair algae. He has been in the tank for about 10 minutes and has eaten a 2 inch patch or so. He is barely 2 inches himself. I may be going back to the LFS for some more.

Anyway, have fun with the sump, post pics when you get a chance.

ack Todd, that really stinks! I'm sorry to hear that. From what Marc was telling me, they apparently only live 3-6 months or so in our tanks, maybe you had really bad luck What a shame, I had high hopes that would help. Mine passed on as well, but I almost run out of hair algae anyways. Hope those conch's work out for you!

Yeah it is a shame. It turned out to be a 400 mile road trip to pick them up for nothing. They lasted 3 weeks and did not eat but that tiny rock.

Such is life I spose.

I went back to the LFS and picked up the last 3 he had. Hopefully as you said, they will do the trick. I did a 30% water change this morning on top of plucking for hours. My fingers are killing me.

We shall see what happens.

Todd
