Thanks for posting that. Very cool to see that they really do get long exposures to air and sun everyday like that.

Makes sense now that my monti digi survived 3 days in the mail with a ruptured bag that left it dry for a day or so.

Great find.

corals are really amazing creatures!!! i wonder if dry shipping is going to catch on. it would really save on shipping weights.

thats why he did it to see if it would make it,plus cheaper shipping.it coral was wrapped in a piece of wet paper and bagged like normal.

Very nice video!

Makes you realize that shipping corals with small amount of water is not the problem.. but instead.. the temp changes it goes through when it doesnt live.

But doesn;t it seem like there would be a huge temp swing from being underwater, compared to baking under the sun.

Most of the time I believe that the high amount of wind cools the corals flesh down. The air passing over and through the branches of the corals act like a radiator.

Same thing goes for them in the water, they need a high volume of water to pass over them to keep them cool from the tropical sun.

I don't know. Wind does a great job if they are damp or wet, but in that blazing sun I don't imagine the exterior stays wet very long.

Watch the video again, he specifically notes how hot the coral gets.

If the coral drys, it dies.

They shed mucus.
