Help with cracked tank trim

Okay, I moved to my new house and am getting ready to install my new inwall setup. During the move I have noticed that the plastic trim around my glass Oceanic 105 gallon tank got cracked in a couple of places.

I do not think that this is a sructual thing and just want opinions from experts as to whether or not this is a problem. The glass is fine and only the plastic is cracked. I have filled the tank and it set for 2 weeks with problems.

Is the plastic only for show?

Does it have any structual properties?

Thanks

The plastic does have structural support to the glass. The glass is actaully siliconed to the plastic trim. Without the trim the glass would seperate from pressure of water pushing against it.

I agree, think of it in the sense of a chain with a cracked link...the integrity is compromised and it will fail sooner or later. It's possible to replace or repair frame, contact Oceanic and inquire about a replacement frame or glue some acrylic on it "euro-brace" style (if it's the top frame) - if it's the bottom frame I would recommend a sheet the same size covering the entire footprint and "glue it to it"..........good luck. Okay, I looked a little better.

It seems like the crack is above the base and seems not to be part of the bottom where the preasure is a part of. The crack goes side ways along the bottom, but not below the bottom level of the tank or where the tank starts. It is more above the level of the bottom of the tank.

Does this seem Okay?

or you could on the wall set an inlay to make it sit tightly in a box around the base of the tank (prolly will look better too) for added support. something like steel or somethin... build it around the tank.
