Quarantine everything!!! Bugs SUCK!
Ok, after almost a month of taking everything out of my tank and dipping LR. I THINK I finally rid of them cirolanid isopod. It all started when I got a zoa rock from a LFS. I iodine and FW dipped it and put it in the tank. After a few hrs, I saw a zoa eating nudibranch floating in the water column and I took it out immediately and observe the tank for the next 2 hrs...then I saw a few BIG cirolanid isopod. So, I took the rock out (a little too late at this point anyway) and started brushing it and dipping it and brushing....And I decided to crack it open and came to my surprises, I found 3 of those nasty worms that have 3 whiskers on its head (they scared the hell outta me...scary ugly!).
I have all my fishes in a 55 gal right now and planning to put them back 2 months later. 3 months should be enough to starve those suckers right? I still have the pested rock in QT to watch for any eggs/newborn. I think I am good as far as the nudibranch. One thing I learned to do from all of this...dipping's not enough...quarantine everything before they go into the display!!! End rant... |

Yeah, only to fishes. The smaller ones are easier to get rid of, but the larger ones will survive after 5 mins of a FW bath! I am just afraid if they laid any eggs in my tank...I hope the chances of that are low cause I did take out that pested rock few hrs after.

i once found one munching on my perc and pulled him off. bad idea though as the fish could have developed an infection from the wound but luckily didnt. its better to quickly dip the fish in fw and let the isopod fall off on its own. thankfully the fish made an easy recovery and i havent had a priblem with the little turds anymore.
heres an article i found when i googled them http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/bp/index.php |

i saw a tiny nudibrach like critter on my glass today, i'm wondering if it's bad, so far i havnt seen it do anything, but i'll probably try to remove it tomarrow. It had little spike like features on its back and was only a few mm long.

Yeah, way back when I had a 75g FOWLR with a nice sized grouper, and a lion fish. I bought a fish from Reef Encounters (that's going way back, they were on Hallendale beach blvd and 441). Anyway, coolest fish I ever bought, I had my suspicions, but it was sold to me as a jack. It looked like a Pompano, but turns out it was a baby Permit. Sure enough, all my crabs were gone in about a week (lots of sallylightfeets, and a couple of emerald crabs.) Anyway, constant motion, back and forth all the time. About 4 weeks later, it had one of those bugs attached to it. None of my other fish were ever affected. It grew extremely fast, after about a week it was around 3/16" long, and seemed to be bothering the fish. I caught the permit, and carefully pulled it off. It was really stuck on, and unfortunately it killed the fish within an hour. Broke my heart, it was my favorite fish to date.
