On a 180 gal SPS tank would you recommend two Tunze 6100 or two 6200 . Poss upgrade to a bigger tank later .

I'd say the 6200's plus additional circulation for dead zones - maybe a wavy sea or two on the return lines.

I don't think you can have to much flow.. I'm talking random, indirect flow. Not a powerhead pointed at the coral..

Flow is as important as light, and getting and keeping it, is the trick.

You will have to upgrade as your coral grow. I would say go with the 6201 on a mulitcontroller. You can add more in the future.

I started out with a hammerhead on a 4 inlet CL. And (4) iwaki 100's on sea swirls. As the coral grew I had problems with dead spots, base recession and general health issues.

First I installed (2) 6200 with a multicontroller, than (2) more. A few months ago I add (2) 6201 for even more flow.. Which took me to around 35x-40x turnover in water flow.. the problem is the pumps can't be pointed at the coral. See attached picture for Tunze placement, it's an old picture. Since than I have add (2) more Tunze.

I've got two of each in a 215g tank and sort of wish all four were 6200's. With a controller, they are not going full blast 24/7, so it's not as much flow as you might think.

Watch the Vortech pumps. I read where they can melt/crack acrylic from the pumps overheating...
