Is it me or have ASM skimmer prices gone up?

I seem to recall checking on the popular online stores for ASM skimmers 4-6mos ago in preparation for the 60 in my sig. Unfortunately I've had to push the setup date back a few months. Just a few minutes ago I checked again and it seems the prices have gone up $20-$30 over the past few months.

True or false?

With oil prices up it's only natural for plastics to go up too.

Could be supply and demand, too -- becoming a very popular choice and rightfully so.

Of course.

But now, I can have a local guy build me a recirc needlewheel with flanges, drain, and GOOD acrylic for less than a similarly sized ASM.

Someone understands basic economics.

I recently purchased a G3 from ASMSKIMMER.com for 242.00, they are now going for 309.00 in their website.

Thats one heck of a price increase.

Supply and Demand is one thing....Greed is another.

yeah, i was going to get a G3 from asmskimmer.com. and looked at their prices back over the summer and had 240'sh written down also. with all the mods for recirculation and a T w/ ball valve that put it close to 300 to buy and ship.

now its gonna be more like 360+shipping for the mods...so almost 400 for a G3. my estimates may be a little inflated, but thats definitely one heck of a price increase.

i think i'd rather just fork over another $100 to get an external H&S instead.

what made the G3 so appealing was the price for performance, but if you have to spend more money to mod it to a recirculating skimmer, plus the price increase...may as well spend a little more to get a kick butt H&S (or other comparable brand).

Looks like i'm not the only one that has noticed

Yes, Al, I agree with you. May as well nut up a few extra pesos and look at something like an H&S or Deltec for the price of a modded ASM.

The G4x I WAS going to buy from asmskimmer is now $70 more. I'll just keep my G3 I guess.

This was a price increase from ASM, but if the resellers already bought their skimmers at a lower price, they can still sell them at the low price. Don't expect the prices to stay low for long on the places that haven't changed. As soon as they need to restock, the price is going to rise.

I have yet to see anyone mention championlighting as a source for ASM skimmers. The G4+ is 359 right now and only like $12 shipping. The G3 seems to go on sale constantly. 3 weeks ago it was $242, then 2 weeks ago $309, then last week $242, now $309 again.

I just ordered teh G4x from premiumaquatics before the price increase hit them as well. That was painful.

And with all the Recirulating DIY projects out there on RC, prices would only go up, too.

The thing is, theyre now pricing themselves closer to ER and company, and no one is going to buy an ASM if they can get an ER/Deltec/etc at the same price.
