So what are YOUR New Year's Resolutions?

Mine: to get the post-house finances back in shape.
To finally pass my Adult Pre-Bronze test [figure skating]...and the Bronze, if I can swing it.
To get the boxes all unpacked and know where our stuff is.
To lose 40 more pounds, so I weigh what I did in college.
To FINALLY get at those ship-building kits from 3 years ago...
To get the Japanese garden underway in the back yard, with a pond...
And not to fall behind my deadlines.

One part of me would love to come to MN for that---but last year it was here, and it is a *grueling* spectator sport. [Our arena seats are murder, and the sessions start early in the morning, like breakfast, and do not break even for lunch or supper...for day after day after day---until 11pm and award ceremonies.] And way expensive. About 500 a head. We're saying that next time we're buying tix to the men's singles, maybe the dance and pairs...and actually going to a restaurant instead of the arena fare. It's a great show---much better, more to see than they ever show you on telly. So many moments of pure magic. And if you start going to them, you start running into people you know from clear across country.
But we just bought a house and are flat this year, thump!back to earth...gotta pay for that and level out the bank account, number one resolution, for sure.

It's worth going for. My own deal, in taking to the ice at, shall we say, *well* above the usual age, was to get an instructor to keep me upright. If it saves one trip to the ER---said I to myself---it's well affordable! Last year I made my first rappel down a rock face---again, with an instructor.
It drives all the other resolutions: like---if I dropped another 40 lbs, that jump would be a lot easier, wouldn't it, so....[wince]...no, I don't need that cheesecake.

Unfortunately there are no instructors around here to learn kite boarding from. I already fly dual line kites so just need to figure out the board part. I joined the gym last week and will start working out on the 3rd. In the process of quiting smoking, started the Chantix two days ago and see an acupuncture practitioner on the 24th. I need to eat the cheesecake, so I can gain about 10lbs.

I'm sticking with last year's goals: continue eating well and working out. I'd like to lose another 10-15 lbs (have lost 24 so far). I start training for another half-marathon in 2 weeks (the race itself is in May) and will probably find another fall race to run it too since that keeps me on a schedule. I found that having a defined schedule was pretty helpful to keep me on track.

Happy New Year!

I only have two this year.

First I resolve not to post to a thread unless what I have to say adds to the quality or content of that thread. (In the case where the thread had no quality or content I will post as usual)

Second I have resolved to be fabulously well-to-do by this time next year. Not rich necessarily, I just want to be able to say to Mrs, Wiz at the restaurant, "Go ahead and get the cheese on that if you want...I got that kind of money!"

Other than that I plan to continue to be the exemplary individual that I am, and continue my fight for truth, justice and the American way.

1. Smarten up and start doing more regular water changes on all three tanks

2. Eat more veggies (already started, just need to keep this up)

3. Spend less, save more

4. Lose the last 10 pounds (down 40 already)

5. Call my grandmother more often

Not Illinois too!!!! I got a call from my brother last week and 2 of his friends drove over the river from St. Paul to Hudson, WI for dinner because they could smoke there. Come to find out the restaurant was packed with Minnesotans! All these smoking bans may be good for the economy of Wisconsin! Which is good! We need something with those stupid cows going to Cali!

I resolve this year to strike a good honest balance between God, family and work. In the past, I have spent too much time on the last and not enough on the first two. I also resolve to be more efficient at work so I have more time to not be there.

My resolutions are to see more of the world, and to do more backcountry camping than I did last year. I'm already working on the first part -- I have a two week trip planned to England and Scotland in April, and then I'm headed to either Ireland or Scandinavia later in the summer.

2007 was a rough year for me. I'm glad it's over, and I'm looking forward to 2008.
