what other fish eat pods.
My friend was asking me this question as he was trying to buy a mandarin dragonete fish. His tank was 6' by 2' by 2 ' and was already one year.
To my surprise , the LFS shop told him the mandarin fish eat formula foods!. So i told my friend that most mandarin fish eat pods and will do well in an establish reef tank. He have a coral beauty , hyppo tang , clown fish , damsels , yellow coris and fairy wrasses. I can't answer him the question as i am still a newbie . Hope i can get some answers from all the experts here. Peace! |

Six line wrasses eat pods. Or you could try to pair the mandarin up. A tank that size should have no problem providing pods for them.

I believe that Scooter blennies ARE primarily pod eaters.

pods are eaten by most fish that come across them...but primarily dragonets, gobies (which sift the sand for them), the aforementioned Scooter blenny, and pretty much all kinds of wrasses feed heavily on pods. Some other fish that are less common (i.e. seahorses and pipefish) are also pod predators. Of the fish listed, I would bet that the Yellow coris and maybe the fairy wrasses are the current pod eaters. I would think a mandarin (or two) would still be fine in a tank of that size though.

I can attest to the fact that Royal Grammas can stay nice and fat on a diet of amphipods.
