If it helps any, I have never used any GFO in my tank. Only calcium/alk/mag and I think I have run carbon for a total of 14 days in the last year.
A small fuge is better than no fuge but it is impossible small fuge make same job than a big fuge with DSB.

Hello everyone I have a 20 gallon nano with 10 gallon sump/refugium.

I have mostly sps

I am great at growing plants so the refugium seemed easy lol. It is easy and I love mine.

I would show you pics but I made a mistake by not using ro/di water ( i am a 1year old noob to aquariums) So I have GHA . and other nussant algae

But I posted to let you know what has been going on with my tank. I start with this tank back in Jan and have always had the refugium. I have lr and some sand , 3 types of marco. so far no asexual blooms in my tank ( I leave refugium light on all day and night)

I have had a few deaths in my tank and I have been testing my water every week. when an organism died no ammonia or nitrates. I had a clown dissappear or die in my tank ( man I still don't know what happened to it) and a emerald crab die.

even tho my sps are not in the best water they are growing and coloring up ( had to turn lights off and when I bought them from a swap most where brown) I have a piece from scripps aquarium that went from brown with purple tips to green with purple tips ( yes this is its orginal color) with in a few weeks. its also has gotten thicker. I also have good PE

I am planning on getting mangroves my refugium is set up in where I can grow them

just wanted to share some info

Ok, I have 30gal BB cube with a ten gallon sump. I have about 6" from my sump to the front door. I was thinking of building a fuge that would be that wide but high enough to drain back into the sump. So it would be 6" wide, 20" long, and 16" high, and made of 1/4" starfire. I would drill for a 1" bulkhead drain and feed it with a power head.

What should I put in it besides macros? DSB or no? LR or just macros. Pick me a cheap light!

Thanks,
Dirt

Speaking of lighting, I just figured out that I could put a 2 t-5 kit over this fuge and use 2/3 of it for a frag tank.

The light I got was from HD 6 bucks make sure you get a day light bulb 5500k or 6500k

Plants grow fast just like coral under that type of lighting
