Overdosing Magnisium

Is it possible to have too much magnesium in the tank? A few local folks said to speed caroline algae growth, just dose the tank high with Mg. It worked for me, but want to know what, if any, ill affects this will have on the tank. My Ca levels are 420 and the KH is 10. I have a FOWLR now, but want to ensure I can keep the chemical levels constant before I add corals.
