Acan information
Im fairly new to RC and just found about and saw pics of different acans which by the way are awesome. Ive had my tank up for less than a year now but have never seen an acan at the lfs. Can you guys recommend a good article(s) on this type, im very interested to see if i could keep some.
Oh, and what kind of price do they typically run? Ive got 250w 20k over my 29gal hex, is this too much for some?

Your best bet is to scan this LPS forum and read all of the Acan threads. There is no book/article on there specific care that I am aware of. They are one of the easy corals to care for IMO. Feel free to ask questions as they come up and we will answer them. As far as price goes any where from $20 per head to $100 per head.

cool thanks. Just a quick question though, overall, what do you normally look for? I got this pic from the lfs, its blurry but is it something worth while?

I would say it's in the Faviidae Family, but that's a big family.
I've seen that type of coral come out of Fiji with the common name "Worm Coral" attached to it, with a scientific name of Goniastrea sp. It looks similar to this Favites vasta. Characters: Colonies are massive and are commonly over one metre across. Corallites are deep and angular and have very thick walls. Septa are equal, uniform, not exsert and finely toothed. Paliform lobes are usually present. Colour: Walls are always uniform amber with cream or white oral discs. Similar species: Favites flexuosa, which has more angular corallites with thinner walls and prominent septal teeth. Habitat: Most reef environments. Abundance: Uncommon But the corallites on your piece look smaller than the ones on the F. vasta.
