What should I put on top of the tank?
ok, with the way my plumbing/overflow is set up, the return outlet actually sits 3 inches from the back of the tank. This makes it impossible for the all-glass manufactured glass top to fit. With PC's what can I put on top of the tank?
In ohio, temp really isn't a problem but I would like to cut down on evap. if at all possible. I was thinking about acrylic or window glass for a top but I think it might block too much light. Does eggcrate block a lot of light? |

egg crate works to keep jumping fish in and does not cut down that much of your lights, I do not think will help with evap though

I would leave it open if you are planning on keeping corals. Do you have a canopy? If so, I just put some landscaping plastic mesh on the back to keep from jumping out.

Leave it open, the ocean does not have a glass top to it.
If you are worried about jumpers, use the mesh that dc_909 suggested.

right now, all that is on there is a coralife pc fixture. i was thinking about building a canopy around it. would the fish be ok even if they jumped and hi the bulbs? i might consider building the canopy, it would probably look better anyway

I built a canopy to block the light spillage, it is about 10 inches tall and I built in PVC to support the MH fixture. Painted black, it looks decent enough.

Yes, build the canopy. I never use any type of glass top and I have never had a fish jump and it the lights. I run my lights very close to the water.
