will anthias kill or harm cleaner shrimp??
Hey guys,
I really want one male lyretail and 2 female lyretail anthias for my 75 gallon reef. Problem is, I've read to moniter with shrimp and I have 2 cleaner shrimp that I am quite fond of. They are getting on the big side so they are not tiny. They are quite amusing and I just really don't want to lose them to a lyretail fish. Any experiences or knowledge with this???? Thanks for any info!! |

Most large predators could easily eat a cleaner shrimp but they dont because they value the services of the shrimp. I dont think anthias would mind this shrimp. But im not sure just a guess. Find out first before you introduce this fish to the shrimp.
Anthias are planktavores in nature and eat small things not larger cleaner shrimps. Although a hawk fish is another story.

have you researched anthias nutritional needs? It's my understanding that they need food in amounts that would overwhelm most reef systems' ability to handle the nutrient load unless there is an incredibly efficient means of export

Lyretail anthias will not harm your average sized cleaner shrimp. I suppose if you found cleaner shrimp the size of a mysis, it is possible. FWIW, anthias enjoy the cleaning services of these shrimp.
