Opinions/Recommendations for a New Reefer

Hello! Well For the past 3 months I have leaped into the world of reef! I had had aggressive tanks for 3+ years and I ran a FOWLR.

Back in June I decided to explore the world of reef aquariums. I guess I will start with my tank specs and inhabitants then I will ask your opinion for recommendations on livestock.

I currently have:
75 Gallon
Eheim 2227 Wet/Dry
Aqua C Remora Pro Protein Skimmer
Gamma 15 Watt U.V.
Various power heads for water movement
Salinity is 1.023
Nitrate is 0.
Calcium is 430

Approx 75 Lbs. Live Rock
Inhabitants:
Maroon Clown
Royal Grama
Yellow Tang

Cleaner Shrimp
Sexy Shrimp
Horseshoe Crab
Serpent Star
Bubble Coral
LTA Anenome
Feather Duster
Hammer Coral

Now I am curious to what types of corals would you recommend? I am interested in Ricordias, Brains, Zoos. I would also appreciate any recommendations. Thanks so much for your attention!

We are missing the ever so important detail though, what is your lighting?

FWIW, wet/dry might give you nothing but trouble in time. As well as the horseshoe. They need so much micro fauna from a sandbed a 75g will not cut it for long. Also, the grow HUGE.

I would agree with TTX, you need to post what kind of lighting you have. With the corals that use photosynthesis that you listed, such as ricordia and zoos, you will need to make sure that you provide adequate light for them to thrive. If you don't have adequate light, you will need to upgrade. But those that you mentioned, are fairly easy to maintain and readily available.

But also keep this in mind, you may want to branch out into more advanced corals that require more light, so consider that as well.

I would also recommend ditching the wet/dry and the horseshoe.

Oh my how did I forget!!!!

I currently have 4 65 watt Coral Life PC system. It has 2 10,000k bulbs and 2 Actinic bulbs. I also have a 80 Watt 50/50 Strip (2 40 watt bulbs) Total of 340 watts. I am probably not going to upgrade to Hallides until Christmas...I hope I get em as a gift...hint hint if your listening.

Lighting is ok as long as you stick to LPS and softies. SPS is a big no non for the most part, dont try it. For clams if you want to go that route a Derasa is your best bet. Everything you listed will do fine in that light. Just make sure to check Calcium and KH often. I would get the frogspawns, hammers, torches, xenias, that kind of stuff. If you wanna get into the more rare stuff acan lords, acan echi., blastomussa, micromussa, echinpphylia, and so on. I would get rid of the long tenical anemone as they are bad news IMO in a reef tank. I would also remove the horse shoe crab. For the wet/dry slowly over a months time remove a little bit of bio balls till they are all gone. Then put in live rock rubble. Make sure the rubble is 100% cured.
