I picked up some free LR today.
The LFS got it from one of the tanks they will be servicing, and it was sitting out in the sun. I think it's been out of water for three days. So I'm mixing up a vat of saltwater, so I can cure it and cook it.

Do you have room in your tank? Or are you planning something else?

Right now, I'm going to cook it I guess. Then down the road, I may try pulling out some rock from my tank, and swap it for some of this. It would be nice to be able to reduce the 'rare' red mushroom population in my tank.

Much nicer, Nathan. I don't know why you'd want more rock in your tank, 'cause then there'd be less room for coralllllllllls.

I see some color on this coral again. Just a bit.
And I see more red (yellow actually) bugs on this A. granulosa. I'd love to try Betadine on this coral to drop them off, as it is less work than the Interceptor treatment.

Marc what do you plan on doing for the AEFW's ?

Well, I've been trying to live in denial about the whole thing, to be honest. As busy as I am, I hate the idea of tearing apart my reef to pull out 25 SPS that would need treating for 6 weeks. I have all the equipment necessary to set up a second system (except for the tank itself), but I don't have the dry powder you used recently. Or that scale.
I'm wondering if these guys have been in my tanks on and off for years, and I just never knew it. It would explain those mysterious coral deaths that have occured in what seemed like a random pattern. They truly are invisible to me, until I do the iodine test. With MACNA about three weeks away, I don't have the time to deal with this topic currently.

Maybe they will all be gone when you get back from MACNA!

I agree Marc, this isn't something to do with MACNA so close. I should of thought about that but I started treatments already. It just so happens my last treament lands on the 24.
But on another note Denial won't help in the end. When you come back from MACNA and after we have had a few drinks together You can setup a plan of action. Also after MACNA Eric Boreman will have more Scientific Data for us. Hopefully this will help you and the whole Reefing Community. |

Both Borneman and Salifert have asked for some live specimens. I'm thinking I'll probably have a few I can bring along, if I can get them off the coral before I leave. At this point, Betadine is the best way to get them off but it may weaken them too much for the trip south as well as for an accurate way to kill them. I don't really want to bring my Tyree frag to MACNA, but it is a good candidate to carry those darn hitchhikers.

i have a friend who had aefw's and he found them by holding an acro in a bucket of tank water and sloshing and shaking it back and fourth. the force didnt hurt the coral at all but the flat worms flew off and landed in the bottom of the bucket......thats how he was able to identify what was killing off all his corals....just a few cents thrown in there for your thought.....jaime

Sloshing them around is pretty much the same as taking a turkey baster to them or holding them in front of a powerhead. The flatworms will loosen and come off for the most part.
I was thinking if you could put the acro in a relatively shallow container of water you could probably use a straw (blowing into straw) to dislodge a few as well.
