A big humongous flow or water, moving really fast!
Help me out here. You went from having a reef tank to a tank with live rock and one coral with the possibility of add corals later?

I understand your whole DSB issue so I'm not going to raise a question about that, but why only a couple of corals? Do you think it looks more natural? I really like the low rock work. If you ever decide to do an acropora domonate tank it would look great, but then again I dont think you find thoese where you live huh!?

Yeah. There's no acropora anywhere to be found in Jerel's front yard. LOL

Thanks Greg you know how to make a guy feel like an @. For some reason when he has his TOTM I though he was in a cooler region. Any way's I know that he wouldn't collect illegally .

Ok I just redid my new reef with a bare bottom but after a few weeks decided to add a 1/2" of sand to could help protect the bottom glass from rock falls or plain clumsyness and be able to place a couple of corals on the bottom.

Read question what is starboard and where do you get it at?
Thanks Gregg

Sorry crawdad1, didn't mean to insult, just thought it was funny.

There's some acro in there if you look hard enough.

CD, I just set the tank back up yesterday! I had to completely take the tank apart to get the sand bed, egg crate, rock - everything out of it.
The corals I had in the tank are back at work, they are fine. As the tank gets older and more stable, I will slowly add them back to it. But not right now.

The bottom of the tank is recessed into the stand to hide some of the sand bed. Now that the sand is gone, I like it better.

You gotta be nuts to collect illegally down there. The penalty is way to high and "the man" stakes out all the best reefs. Every time I go to one of the lesser known patch reefs for a photo shoot, a marine law enforcement boat comes by to "ask us how we're doing". Cooincidence? Nope. They keep a very close eye on things.

Brian, it's that while stuff they make chopping blocks out of. We use it on boats and to make bait wells.

Yea, but my skimmers have always produced then, right from the start.

That's cause you have that dirty, stinking, algae scrubber tank of yours.

(disclaimer - Doug's tank is spotless, I'm kidding him)

I have been wondering how much you have limited your bio capacity also?

To heck with the bio-capacity. LOL I'm taking it out before it has a chance to sit there and fester. That's the whole idea.

Looks great Bomber...

How long was it before you started to have algae problems? Have you considered a stand alone refugium?

Just curious,

Ryan

Hey bomber, was your dsb composed of SD type substrate? It look alot courser. Do you have ant concernd with detritus build up underneath the panels or did you silicone around them before laying them down? I have to say the long thread about DSB you were involved in put a little damper on my 480 gallon refugiam, buy sine I have it up and running well see what happens.

CD, it was all live sand. The closest HomeDepot is back on the mainland.

There will be so little detritus under the panels, it just won't matter. I'm sure there's much more on the rocks.

Great tank!

Do you still have that awesome looking fan-like gorg that I always drooled over? I have tried and tried to find one like it, but no luck.

I'm not saying that starboard is a bad idea at all... looks very interesting!

but I have a feeling crap will creep under the panels- it is much more of an anaerobic enviornment than your rock is...

Of all things, I ended up with 1/2 of the bulbs actinic and the other 1/2 50-50's. (I know, don't even go there I know what you're going to say)
