I like the second one because the outlets are larger, but the first one would be sufficient for Phosban Reactors & a Calcium Reactor.
I would connect it in line with the return going to the tank, as it would be the least likely to have detritus moving through it.

That would mean alot more plumbing or running more plastic hose to the equipment.
Do you see any other way I can do it? I thought the the excess water was the same as the one going to the return but it is only throttled. I guess I could use the rightside one to feed my Skimmer. I don't see the drain having enough flow to feed my skimmer. What do you think Marc? |

Don't use the drain side. You need something with flow behind it, like from the return pump or a single pump to feed all other pieces of equipment.

I thought since it was off the return it was usable. What makes it not usable? Doesn't the water still have pressure?
All I'm basically doing is diverting unused water flow. I guess I'm confused. Because it's not capped off? |

The confusion lies in what specifically a "return" is. The return should be the flow pushed by the return pump to the tank.
Some people refer to the drains in their tank as the returns, although that is not what they are. They are the drain lines, and the water is then returned to the tank with the return pump. If you have a pump that has enough flow to supply the tank as well as feed that manifold, go for it.

Marc I believe you I just love to ask questions since I'm new to the whole plumbing thing. If you think it's better to tap of that return then I will.

Ok Marc here is what I have
Where is a good placment? Also I wonder if the one you thought was better is ok to use with SW,All plastic construction? I will call Monday http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/.../8341/cid/2034 |

this is just me but why not put a "tee" right after your gatevalve coming off the return pump and then tee down the excess water off that. will save you some PVC pipe...although not much.

Marc what can I do in terms of making a manifold I'm limited by the size of PVC which is 1 1/2inch and the amount of room I have to work with.

Would this work?

Yes, that should work. I don't know how long that piece is, but you could even possibly install two in the rising part, and two in the horizontal part, instead of 4 in a row. Once you add that, you'll probably no longer need that bleed off valve (I guess that is what it is) running to the right and into the sump (in the picture above).

will you have enough flow through the manifold?

Yes it is a bleed off. I will work on that this weekend..

Also is it ok to dial down a Iwaki pump?

Oooh, it rolls!!!!!! More pictures.
Dial down the Iwaki? Why would you need to do that?

haha at first glance it looked like you had crumbled aluminum foil on the back of your tank......
So will that entire huge canopy move? or another part? |

The entire canopy moves.

I have a feeling you may not need it for much, once the manifold is sharing water to other equipment. Keep in mind you could even have one of the gate valves control the amount of water going back to your reef tank, perhaps.
