Lightbulb Can I put a SCWD on my return?

Hi all, I was thinking: can I put a SCWD on my return line? I just bought a SCWD and a Maxi 1200, I was going to build a closed loop system and run it off the Maxi. Why not just put it on my return line and Ill put the Maxi in the tank for more flow or keep it for an extra. Im running two maxi 1200's right now. Has anyone done this before??>

Lots of ppl put scwds on their return from the sump. Keep in mind it will reduce the flow by 20% just from the scwd.

Because it is creating a restrictio0n to the clow. Any bends or anything will create a restriction. Just go with a pump that flows 20% more than what you want! I have one on my return and so far I like it a lot.

I put a scwd on the return with a mag 9.5 for my 29 gal. It really restricts the flow, i'm going to add a closed loop for more flow. Just not enough from the mag.

I ran into the same problem on my 46.

i have 1 inch bulkhead in the overflow, got it years ago, i believe 800gph? with scwd and mag 9.5 dialed back just a tad works perfectly...my only complaint with the scwd is that i cant attach a large hose have to use 3/4 ID i have a couple extra returns that are 1" but cant use them. tried hose clamps real tight but still leaked so went back to the 3/4" ID
