Lightbulb Best way to get my goggles clean?

The guy who sold me my mask said to use toothpaste to clean them before I go snorkeling for the first time.

Does that make sense?

Yes, and it works. Aparently, there is a film that needs to be removed from the new mask. The best (and only) way that I've been told to do this is by rubbing toothpaste (a mild abrasive) in the mask and rinsing it with fresh water. I did it with mine and it worked.

I've always used the 'ol saliva trick. Toothpaste does tend to scratch your lenses. Another thing you can do is to just leave a 1/2 teaspoon or so of water in you lenses. When they start to fog up, do a figure 8 with your heads to swish the water around your lenses. Tada! All clear.

Toothpaste works but like tjampm and asphaltpilot said, can cause some micro (and not so micro) abrasions on the surface of the lense if you are too vigerous with your scrubbing that thin layer of protective film off of the mask. That being said, I always scrub my mask after purchase with a mild toothpaste (well actually just what I have in the travel kit!). After that, I use spit for daily maintance and pre-dive ritual cleaning.

Do the toothpaste, and be gentle like stated....

No need to leave any water in your mask ever, just buy either 500psi antifog or "baby spit".....It will last for up to 3 dives a day, and you will have ZERO fogging while diving. Well worth the few bucks it costs to not have fog.

Just mild soap and water works well for routine post dive cleaning. For anti fogg, I find spit works the best

I like seagold for pre-dive, or 500 psi. But toothpaste is a must for new purchases. As the silicone cures, it offgasses, leaving a film on the glass. I do toothpaste every few months, and anti-fog before each dive.

not sure about toothpaste myself but baby shampoo works like a charm. get those that don't hurt your eyes. beats sea gold anytime.
