I have heard that they grow very slow. But they sure are awesome looking corals!

Congrats!

Sorry I don't have pics, but in the 14 months I've had mine, it's only gone from a tiny 1/4" nub to 1" with about 7 branches. Slow as hell.

I'm finding the pink lemonade to be even slower

I had a 2.5" Purple Monster frag in the past and, from my experience, they're extremely slow growers. It grew about 1/4" in a year, including some fairly good encrusting growth. It may take several years before you have anything close to a small colony, just be patient.

This is my PM colony. It does grow extremely slow but I've been able to get this thing growing ok.

You need to make sure that it puts down a good base first. That's super important

Slobound, that's incredible growth! What's the time frame between the two pictures?

I have always heard they are really slow but the 2 that i had weren't all that slow. It took them a long time to put down a base, after that I would say it was just slightly less than average growth. Definately slower than most sps, but I could notice growth every couple of weeks or so.

Here is mine in front of the lokain ......It has been tanked for a month and already encrusted . This is the tyree piece. I always told myself I wouldn't buy one because of the price but I got lucky and got it at an auction for 40 bucks. It didn't sell Starting At 50 so the seller dropped the price so they didn't have to take it back home on a 5+hr drive which it went thru to get to phx.Even @ $40 no one eles bid. Their loss my gain.

Just got mine yesterday...... and it looks like the frags above except mine is like a 1/4" frag..... would also be interested in how high in the tank and in what sort of flow for this coral for optimal growth......

Graham,

I'm not positive when I got that frag. I know it was in February but I can't remember if it was '03 or '04.

I've got to look back at old pictures to find out.

How's your tank doing?

Garrick

Hey guys, I just got a frag of PM myself. I wonder if you keep yours under intense light and intense flow?
Mine is about 3/4" but I didnŽt know they were so slow growers!
But as Obi Wan says "Patience, my young Padawan!"

I'd call it a fairly slow grower but keeping it lower in the tank halps to maintain its color. Water flow is moderate-to-good and alternating.

I got my frag from Kedd, I would post a pic but don't have one yet. I also need to move mine down lower, it's not as purple as it was. I was thinking high light too. OOPS!
