Do you guys think this is a micromussa? I don't think it is but a couple people I know think otherwise. It gets much plumper when feeding, the rest of the time it's not quite as fleshy.
Sorry about the corraline on the glass!! Jacob.

Yes, your piece looks like Micromussa diminuta. Can't say for sure if it is or not. M. diminuta Characters: Colonies are massive and cerioid, with pentagonal or hexagonal corallites 3-4 millimetres diameter. Walls are thin. Septa are beaded and columellae are poorly developed. Colonies do not have thick fleshy tissue over the skeleton. Colour: Brown, with pale grey centres. The surface is usually speckled white. Similar species: Micromussa minuta, which has larger, more rounded corallites with fewer, thicker septa. Underwater this species can readily be mistaken for a faviid with small corallites. Habitat: Shallow reef environments. Abundance: Uncommon. Taxonomic note: See ‘New species described in Corals of the World’ (Veron, in preparation) for further information. Source reference: Veron (2000). Remember that these pics are taken in the Ocean, and not under Actinic lighting.

That would have been my pick too if I had to pick a micro species. I have spent many an hour on aims and it was between that and Favites bestae. I printed out pics of both skeletons and compared to a spot where 2 heads died, def. not favites bestae.
Also I don't have any actinics (T5 6500k and Blue+) I'm so insulted Jacob.

minuta and diminuta are tough to tell apart, reefer madness had a "minuta" that I swore was a diminuta just the other day. Anyone know who got it?

Here's one more pic of it next to a Blasto merletti for comparison. Also this pic shows it in the most 'contracted' state.

With this second pic, looks more like favite to me with the deep valleys. Can you get a closeup w/o feeders?

Yep, I'll get a good pic later on when I get home. That's why I originally thought it was not a micromussa too. A friend I recently gave a frag too said it is always much more plump in his tank, which is lit by halides and has more flow than mine, so I'm not sure what to think.

It responds very rapidly to general feeding. It also shows no tissue damage form where I made the incisions. Not to mention, your coral is recovering from it's bout with the blelnny from hell.
You can always call it the mothramussa.

Its been a long time since they made a Godzilla movie, maybe all his enemies are now his friends. That would explain why no new Godzilla movies have come out.

Rob, you're at the top of the list, just tell me when you're ready for it. I remember we talked before. I've only taken one frag of it so far, it got really beat up by a blenny and is now starting to look a lot better.
So you decided enough with the sticks it sounds like!
