my first coral ( GSP)
ok i have had my tank set up now for 10 months and i think its time for some corals. i want an all softie tank so i decided to start with some GSP. its a 55 with 70+ lbs of live rock and a fuge full of chaeto that has been growing like crazy sence i stated addin live stock. water params are great and i have had awsome luck with all my fish and inverts. i amn running a coralife 240 PC over it right now with 40 x turnover an hour via return pump and 3 maxijet pumps one with a MJ mod. i guess what im gettng at is tell me all about GSP and some other super hardie softies to begin with.

GSP are pretty hardy and like the flow. They also like Alkalinity and Calcium to stay in check or they tend to close up. One thing to think about with GSP is how to control them long term. The grow very fast and can get out hand so be sure to keep that in mind when placing them. Almost all leathers are very hardy and should also do well in your tank and come in a variety of colors and shapes. Mushrooms would also be a good beginner coral with a great selection or color, but these grow just as fast or faster than GSP. Good luck with your tank. It will be full of coral before you know it.

i have done some resurch on them but i thought i would ask some people that have some. i have heard they grow really fast but about how fast does one of these things grow

GSP is a great starter softie but can get out of hand also if not kept in check. Luckily it spreads by creating a mat so you can cut it back by peeling/cutting the mat back. Some people love it and others dont care for it much if it gets growing too good.
Mushrooms are a good one too and under good tank conditions will reproduce pretty well on its own. Son started with small donor blue mushroom in his Nano and has sold probably 20+ new ones from this single one. Some can be had for a pretty good price too.
