yellow tang

Quick question about a yellow tang. I got a small one today, and everything looked fine. I've now noticed a stripe going down the middle of it, it's just a little different yellow, but noticeable. Is this a sign of stress? I've seen it eating algae in the tank and otherwise looks fine.

I think it's to early to tell yet. You should post this thread on the disease forum with pictures.

If you mean a narrow "front to back" stripe, this in normal tang coloration and nothing to worry about.

Best wishes,

just to add a comment - if it starts to look like a red line, it's probably not normal, and is a sign of the beginnings of lateral line erosion. My yellow tang had a whitish stripe that was very apparent when the lights first came on in the morning, because the rest of his body colour was darker for a while.
