I think this is the only thread in the Lounge, in the history of RC, that shouldn't by hijacked... Don't you agree?

hi everybody!! gary is IN HIS CHAIR!!!! wow, what a difference! he is bright-eyed, eating a brownie and already this morning, he has had 7 visitors. well, i dunno if you'd call family "visitors" but they're here and that's what matters.

he hasn't had any pain meds since 6 a.m. and he's feeling fine. every time i walk by him, he grabs my butt and then looks all innocent when i say HEY!!! and acts like he doesn't know what i'm talking about. i tell him i'm gonna tell nana but he seems to think she'll let him get away with murder now and he's probably right!

i had to sort of tell a little fib...i wasn't comfortable leaving him unrestrained, even though there is always at least 2 people with him all the time, and since his recliner has no "rails" like his bed, nana and i tied a sheet around his chest and knotted it behind the chair. i told him it was so his chest wouldn't get cold.

i'm having a great weekend, hope everybody else is!
love & hugs to you all!
xoxoxo nina

How about making this thread a sticky thread so it always stays on top?

i wonder if that's even needed, doc. while i certainly agree that it is sticky-worthy, everybody in the lounge is following this thread. I don't think it's fallen off the first page one time.

Grab Away, Gary!!!!!

He's just being a guy, you should be encouraging him.

Heck, Nana should be encouraging him.

On a more serious note, you folks are doing a WONDERFUL thing for him. My father's death wasn't all that different from this and it really helped us as much as it helped dad. Death is always hard, but I couldn't imagine a death being more gentle than my father's. He didn't suffer and we had time to be with him before he left us.

i agree, mutt. when my own father died, we were in a hospice room at the hospital and were able to be with him until the end. it meant the world to us and i know it did to him.

now that we have gary home, i am assured that i can be with him when the time comes. i have taken a leave from work, with my boss's blessing. it is my hope that when God calls gary home, he will go from my arms to His. i want to be able to send gary on this journey with him knowing i will be okay and i want to be able to be holding him close when he leaves this world. nana and the rest of gary's family are all giving us the time alone when it seems we need it. i couldn't ask for a better bunch of people to be at my side.

When my father died, I prayed for two things.......for my mother to be there and that she not be alone.

I was driving to the house when he died and didn't make it in time. My mother was at his side and my brother was with her. My brother is a paramedic and he took care of all the after death details. (My father donated his body to science and there was a bit of coordination to be taken care of.)

I sat with my mother and held her while we cried together. It was very hard for us all, but we had time to prepare and no one had to be alone. I am extremely grateful for how it transpired and I hear so many simularities with Gary.

This is the most difficult of things to deal with, but God is doing what he can to ease the pain.

I think it's wonderful to be by your loved one when they are crossing over- I didn't have that chance when my pap passed away. The nurses assured me that I could go home- I made it home to a phone call as soon as I walked in the door- it was horrible... I did make sure to kiss him and tell him that I loved him b/f I left the hospital, but it still bit big time.

xoxoxo to Gary-

Nina thank you for all the updates.
If Gary is anything like my Dad and Grandfather having "his" chair is a very important part of his life. heck the stop my dads chair sits in hasn't changed since before I was born.

Glad the meds are doing thier job and please remember to take care of yourself as well.

That's great Nina. Dan's Mother got to come home also. All 5 kids made it home in time for her to tell them goodbye.
