lisa & charles both passed

they had polygraphs done last night. they have both vehemently denied, for months, that they sexually abused their 4 learning-disabled children. i always thought lisa was being truthful but i doubted charles. guess i'll have to eat crow now. wonder if it tastes like chicken.

I can send you some to try....

It's a small blessing tho, sometimes it's good to be wrong.

that wouldn't matter. the questions posed to him are more specific. he isn't just asked "do you abuse your children?" he is asked very specific, very detailed questions to which the only answer is yes or no.

and, don't ask me what the questions are because if i tell you, you and i would BOTH get whacked and it wouldn't be with a wet noodle.

a sociopath can lie without tripping a polygraph.

There's a new tech just on the horizon that maps brain activity as pictures of individuals are flashed on screen. That one, apparently, is going to be just a wee bit harder to beat. Seems the AREA which goes active, re the guilty or deviant, differs.

correct, polygraph results are not admissible in court. however, if the state's case is weak, a good result for the defense may push him a little closer to dismissing the case. these people are ready to go to jury with this. they are adamant.

i watched several interviews of the children when they met with social workers. their answers to questions were vague and much of the time, the questions had to be repeated ad nauseum.

sk8r, i've wondered for a long time why they can't come up with a more sophisticated method. anyway, this examiner has done thousands of tests and he said there was no doubt in his mind that both of them are innocent. i guess we'll find out, if it goes to trial.

Isn't there a truth serum? Why can't they do a truth serum test? They use it on spies and stuff I think.

the way i understand it, that would fall under "unreasonable search & seizure". also, people under the influence of such drugs may be truthful but there's always the chance of incoherent babbling. i've seen more than one case where the state took incoherent babbling and tried to get a conviction. in those cases, the drug of choice was usually alcohol, not sodium pentathol.

That's good news for me, because I sure wasn't able to beat the polygraph. Early in my military career I was "volunteered" to assist with the training at the National Polygraph Institute at Ft McClellan, Alabama. I was coached through scenarios and it was my job to try to deceive the interrogators. I was never once able to trick them.
