Springfield-Decatur Area Reef Club (SDARC)???

I'm just throwing this idea around. More for my own benefit than anything

I need a local reefclub, and I don't have one, but I want one.

Would you be interested in a Springfield-Decatur Area Reef Club
Possibly Calle SDARC.

My thoughts are that we could exist along-side BNARC periodically (as sort of a sister club) sharing meetings or even attending each others meetings if we wanted.

It's just an idea to get something closer to the Springfield area.

I posted it in the CIMA forum as well as the BNARC website with a link to this poll. I wanted it to show up everywhere, but wanted all the votes to go to one poll.

Hopefully that will catch the majority.

i am in just let me know where to go. i work sat mornings so depends on when a meeting is. A 1 o'clock meeting in sprinfield would work for me. i would be a little late but i could come at least.

I plan to join bnarc I have been a member of the forum for a little while, I will probally wait till the next swap and do so in person. I definalty agree we need a club a little closer to SPFLD, I think its possible that we could organize a reef club here in spfld, more like a central il reef club. there is talks of a "FRAG PROPGATION & TRADING CLUB" in the works with a local vet & another guy Ive been speaking with, they are trying to get a meeting planned for the second saturday in Jan 08'open to all interested I think, if not I had invite and was told I could bring ppl with me.......they didnt say a limit on how many!! when I get more info I will post it here or/and on BNARC

It is a club, but it's fairly dormant at the moment. There was a split that became BNARC.

It is Central Illinois Marine Aquarists. I think they are based out of Champaign-Urbana.

Hey, just letting you know that I'm the one that voted no, only because I probably wouldn't have time to drive to Springfield for meetings, etc! But I'm all for your guys having a group..so I didn't know what to put :P Sorry!

Heh, um.....A....and C.... I am a member of BNARC (and CIMA) and I live in the Springfield area...

How ironical. I've been talking to the owner of "The Aquatic Life" about the need for a club in Springpatch. We were thinking about trying to get something local going next month.

Are these tandem groups occuring or are we both working with the same peepos? Obviously, one group is needed and we should join forces if worlds are colliding.

hmm....not sure. Either way, I think we should consider "US" as a whole a group. Good stuff.

hubris, LoweJ82 and I have been doing a bit of searching and question asking about starting a group in which we initially coined "Springfield-Decatur Area Reef Club" aka SDARC. Not sure if we're all connected in the creation process here, but nothing's official at this point, so we should all join forces IMO.

We've spoken through pm before as well correct. You live close to me.

lol.....well to fill you in hurbis I didnt want to say any names untill those ppl came foward, I have been also speaking with "THE AQUATIC LIFE" he was telling me a little on you 2 speaking on the topic, then dcombss and I have been trying to get something off the ground. I plan to be at what ever "theaquaticlife" has or is trying to have planned in Jan.

Anywho, i've been jonesin' to have a club in THE REAL central illinois for some time. I'm tired of driving to chambana or blomingormal to meet up with other reef nerds. Also, i need someone close to watch my tanks while i'm out of town, heh.

As for SDARC for a name....we can do better than that. I say we either steal CIMA or make up a cool name... n' stuff.....

Although I'm 1.5 hrs away, I would vote for Central IL Reef Builders (CIRB). Sounds kind of cool to me. But then again, being part of BNARC and CIMA, maybe I could be part of that club as well. huh.

It would be nice to get the Champaign area group going again.

From the vibe I get on the CIMA forum, they don't really want us using their name or website for our stuff.

Probably best to not use someone else's name when forming a new club. If you were re-starting the same club, different matter altogether.

Most definatly not using central il marine assosation...... That would be wrong all together, Personaly I feel we shouldnt be using cimas forum's !! I would like to see all areas be able to come together for events and such.

CIRB~central illinios reef builders..... would work good if we was to use the forum over at www.reefbuilders.com that was offered to us!! we need just one more person to sign up and be in are club @ that forum to have our own. once that person signs up and pm's me there info & we pick a name, we have a home to base out of!!
