15% every week, else maybe 20-25% bi-weekly if I don't have time every weekend.

I do water changes every two weeks 15 gallons in my 46 bow front tank... But here is a question if you are able to keep you water params in an ideal range, is a water change really that necessary? What if you were able to keep everything in check for lets say a month a year, 2 years etc.. Just a question don't slam me too hard. Like I said I do water changes but would like to know the answer.. Yes I understand water changes help in eliminating fish poo and other waste so I don't want it to go down that route but honestly are water changes necessary if you can keep all params in check!

I don't really do water changes at all, unless something doesnt look right, which isnt very often. One of my tangs had a bit of a cloudy eye so I did a 10% water change last week, but thats really the first one in 4 months.

im starting to think as long as ur equipment keeps up and ur water quality is good i dont see why ud need to do some many water changes so often either

i mean right now im goin on week 6 and i really dont see why i should do a water change...

i just tested everything the other day

Ph-7.8 nite to 8.15 day (low due to Ca reactor)
am-0
na-0
ni-0
PO4-0 (run phosphate reactor and lots of cheato)
ca-420
alk-8.3 dkh
mg-1290

my tank stays very stable and is always about the same besides a lil alk and calcium fluctuation here and there.... im guna see how long i can keep my tank without water changes or maybe ill just limit them to once every 2 months ill save alot on salt that way

i run an ASM-g4 with a mesh mod this thing seems to work great and i run a SSB with about 220lbs LR

other then that im starting to rethink my water change approach

hey everyone! i have a 125 w/ a 50 gallon sump and i do a 20gal wc every month. the reason i do my wc is not really because of nutrient buildup. the wc help replenish elements and resources that are used up by the inhabitants of my tank. alk and calcium are not the only two elements used by corals. magnesium, boron, iodine, and countless other elements play a key role in the health of all the critters. yes i'm sure we can all get away w/ not doing wc for months on end, but why risk it if you invested xxxx amount of money on the tank. just my 2cents

I currently do 10% every week-2weeks. I was doing them every week religiously but I wanted to see how things would do if I cut it back to every 2 weeks, so I've been slowly increasing the time between water changes.

...Unfortunately the results haven't been great. I lost a waining piece to green boring algae. So I think I'm going to go back to once a week, until I get the Ozone up and running again.
