HOB filter?
I have removed the HOB skimmer from my 40B due to less than stellar performance. After a couple of days, I now notice some things floating around in the water. I believe, putting the old Whisper filter from my old FW tank could help it out. I believe the cartridge will help with mechanical filtration and the carbon might not hurt either. So, my question. How should I clean the old filter. I actually have the filter box itself pretty clean, but I wasn't sure about soaking the old motor in vinegar or bleach. Any thoughts?

JMO,If it has been recently taken from a FW tank soak it in bleach. Then wash it with FW and dechlorinate it.

It has been taken offline about 3 weeks. The plastic body has been soaked in bleach, I just didn't do anything to the motor. Would it be safe to use as is?

It should be ok, just make sure no bleach remains. It sounds like your ok.

I ran a fair amount of hot water through it and it has been sitting for a couple weeks since i cleaned it. Will the bleach dissipate just in contact with air?
