Colour change in chalice corals (Pictures inside)!
I am always amazed with corals once I go back and look at old pictures. The change in them is incredible!
Please feel free to add picture comparisons of changes in your corals you find interesting! Scott This (Oct. 13, 2007): to this (Jan. 08, 2008): This (Apr. 29, 2007): to this (Jan. 08, 2008): This (Aug. 19, 2007): to this (Jan. 08, 2008):

Wow, very impressive. Do you have them under low or high light?
Wahoo! My 3000th post!! I think I am done posting on RC. I like keeping a round number.

Yes, definately tell us what kind of lighting changes you did to encourage those colors!

These have all been kept under the same lighting from the day they hit my tank. I run 6 x 36" HOT5's running off of IC 660 & 430 ballasts . Each bulb has an Ice Cap reflector on it.
I have a 40 gallon tank I am going to set up and run 4 x 36" HOT5's with relflectors off of an IC 660 just for the chalices so they can grow flat and I can keep algae under control. The first comparison has been the wildest colour change with my chalices by far. Scott

Great pics - always nice when they change for the better.
Do all the chalices' colour change on you - or do some stay the same?

Meaning if it had blue on it, does the blue stay constant and just the other colours on it change? Pretty much all of the chalices I have added change to some degree which I thought was normal. For the most part it seems to take the coral 2-3 months to change into "my tank" colours and then they stay pretty constant. I also have an alien eye that for the longest time just had the vibrant green eyes and an off grey base colour that recently has been taking on a pinkish/purple appearance.
I am quite impressed with the colours I am getting out of my corals since switching to the T5 setup. I'll post up a couple more when I get some time. Cheers Quote:

You say you switched to t5s, what did you have previously?

I made the switch from 220watts of PC to the T5's about 7 months ago. I didn't have any of these chalices then. All the colour change has happened under T5's.
The PC's weren't bad but I have a 32" deep tank and they couldn't reach the bottom of the tank with any power. The light from the T5's is amazing.

Those are some pretty amazing transformations. How quickly are your chalices growing?

Looks great. Where's the placement of the chalice?

They grow maybe 1-2 cm a month at best! They are all in a lower flow area of my tank (in tank circ is ~2700gph) and ~12-18" from the lights.
Cheers, Scott
