No idea, but it is a beautiful piece with some strange growth patterns at the top. Perhaps it grew over something else that used to be on that rock.

Man, the last 6 or 7 pics are freakin' INSANE!
Grisha has a couple of Favids that look like Acans & Scolys more than Favia & the last 2 are drop dead gorgeous. Obviously we are not EVEN close to the end of the eye candy!

There's a secondary creature living on those tubes, looks like a feather duster.

that purple with a green rings is strange ....it is not an acan ehinata for sure nor lord.... polyps ar way bigger than any favias i have but i can recall seen a big ones in ppls tanks ....
the second one with the red body green ring and blue eye ...my best guess is "somekindofanacan" but i have seen many and this one is just so different from all....btw i laughted the moment i saw it at doctor Macs site as acan lord i just swallowed it all happy

Yes,
Whatever it is, its beautiful. I'm guessing that the second IS some kind of Favid, but maybe of the less common genera. Guess I'll have to go to the Coralsearch page & look at them all, and the mussids too. Maybe I can find an approximate match for your coral. My own Scoly does look like that, but of course, its a single polyp..

Take care,
Matthew

That is a nice one Slick, even if it isn't one of these insance psychedelic ones. All Favia are sweet corals in my book.

Looks like its trying to grow a trunk. How odd.
Well Santa did not bring me a digital camera ( though I got a bunch of nice stuff). I'm just going to have to splurge.

Kev,
My newest Favia colony has gone from red to brown & now is turning orange. I'm just crossing my fingers that it will develop into one of these keepers. Hopefully by then, I'll have a way to take its pic..

Grisha,
I couldn't quite understand your reply up there. Either you had WAY too much Eggnog last night, or you were interrupted while posting. Could you clarify that last sentence?

Kev,

Well, it looks quite similar to that one trying to bud right up there. Except the polyps are going orange. As I said I got my fingers crossed. I'm guessing they ( & King Kongs back several pages) are all the same species. Whichever one that is.
Back to the search page!

Matthew
Well, when I actually GET a digital Cam, sure thing!
