Do they no longer sell old style Ebo Jagers?
These are my favorite heaters... they are practically indestructable. You know, the green ones that you need a coin to adjust the thermostat on. Thankfully I still have a stockpile of 3 or 4 extra, but if I upgrade in the future, I may need more, since I like to keep one in the sump, one in the main tank, one in the top off water and one in the water change storage bin. I have heard the new ones are not as indestructable, and I've heard titanium heaters are great, but that their thermostats can stick. Does anyone know why they changed them and no longer make the green ones?

I still have an old one from '94.
I think ownership has changed a couple of times, once for sure I believe maybe to Ehiem? If you make a heater too good, and it lasts too long, you don't get as many repeat sales. Out of 11 of the new blue top ones, I have had 4 stick on and overheat their tanks. 3 were over a year but one was after a couple of months so it was warranted.

ray, that makes sense, they say the same for other consumer products (building them so as not to last long)... makes me mad! Well, it makes "sense" to a point... because whatever happened to good word of mouth?
Warning taken on the new EJ's.... haven't tried them yet.

I agree, the green ones were the best ones. I upgraded to one of the newer black ones and they are horrible. The temperature is hard to adjust (needs two hands) and temperature was not stable.
I finally upgraded to a new Vis-Therm stealth heater and it works perfect. |

I am using a stealth and it seems to work well for me too.
Others don't share the same feelings though. I like the fact that it is plastic and won't shatter and that it turns itself off if it is out of water. |

Yea, Ehiem makes them now. I bought 2 new 300 watters. Both of them showed condensation inside after about 5 months. They were replaced, no problem, through BigAlsonline where I bought them ( They warranty all thier heaters 1 year ). The 2 new ones are 8 months old now and doing fine. I have no temp swings at all.

I found 5 of the green heaters at the local flea market, I love them also and use them in my smaller tanks.
I have ordered some new heaters from drsfostersmith however for my 125 to make sure nothing bursts. But the greens are great. Now I have a stock of them. All work great and only gave 1.00 each for them, LOL, I love a bargain |

I've had 2 of the new "Eheim Jagger" 150W for over a year. Very happy with them. Temp setting is accurate, no issues at all.

Why do you put a heater in the topoff?

Ira, you're right, I wasn't thinking when I typed that. (I just have a powerhead in there). I was thinking the heater I have in my water change storage (and that is only turned on when I make the water up).
