Kalkwasser
I have access to Calcium Hydroxide, he also called it Hydrated Lime. The spec's where as follows:
Calcium Hydroxide 73.8% Silica Oxide 0.9% Magnesium Oxide 0.7% Sulphur Oxide 0.4% Co2 24.0% Lab Grade so can anyone tell me is this the same as Kalkwasser and is it going to be safe to use in my Reef Tank? Any information would be great |

As I know Calcium-hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] is called kalkwasser. Here at Europe it's 99% clear... I wouldn't use that...
Silica Oxide - [SiO2]? is food for algaee....

Yup, that should be perfectly safe. And I doubt that little trace amount of silica is going to cause any problems.

That material is largely calcium carbonate (note the 24% CO2), and I wouldn't use it to make limewater.

Kent Kalkwasser is not that expensive, and you know exactly what you are getting.

Since I've used the Kent Kalk, my calcium is about 500 in my 75 gallon reef. It's hard to beat the old tried and true.

I do not think that calcium carbonate is a useful additive. Aragamight, Aragmilk, and Kent Liquid Reactor essentially just fine sand that mostly ends up not dissolving in marine aqauria: Calcium Carbonate as a Supplement http://www.advancedaquarist.com/iss...ly2002/chem.htm

esv kalk, i used mrs wages till i got tired of questioning the brown film on the inside of my mix container......................i dont see the point in filling your tank with expensive live creatures and taking a gamble with additives to save a few bucks, fish and coral dont look like pickles to me
