ME!

None here. Never text. Just don't see the point. If I gotta tell somebody something I just call them.

On the other hand, I have gotten a couple over the years. Best was one in a meeting from my co-worker across the table commenting on the speaker at the seminar we were attending.

same here, less than a half a dozen received (total) zero replied to
other than a phone call back telling the sender to stick it where the sun don't shine

Nadda, I don't like the whole text thing in the least bit.

If you got something to say to me C A L L M E!!!

I don't even answer the ones I get. It takes less time to hit a speed dial button to call someone thn to text. I'm into the personal conversation more that the shorthand typing. Not to mention I don't under stand half the ones I get.

I'm suprised the words "cheap bastard" haven't come up. As in "I don't text because i'm a cheap bastard and refuse to pay for spam.

I do ZERO. Not worth the time or trouble.

My 15 year old on the other hand texts all the time. He had 1500 text per month and went over by 4884! He now has unlimited so I'm not sure what it will be this month.

The reason they text at that age is because it's easier to text a girl then to risk tripping over their tongue trying to stammer out an intelligent conversation on the phone (not to mention the pitch of their voices changing with no warning)!

You can also text away and nobody around you has a clue who or what you're talking about!

Andrew,

If you have 13,000 text messages a month, that means you have to average a text message every 3 minutes, 24 hours a day for the entire month. Assuming you sleep 8 hours a day, you would have to average a text message every 2 minutes.

You either have no life outside texting or bad math.

Brian, texting can add up quickly, for example

k
brb
gtg
ttyl

all count as ONE. You can easily do 60 a minute!

I don't know about it being easy.

How can you do anything else while doing this? Most of this phenomenon is with younger people. No wonder our schools are in the toilet. I say ban cell phones for grade school students.

Grade school, jr. high/middle school and high school.

What in the world is so important to a 13 year old that they need to carry a cell phone during school hours? If there truly is an emergency, the parent can call the school office who can pull the student out of class.

There is a picture message out there that is great for sending during breaks of a meeting. It is a picture of batman, robin, and superman. The picture is too long so you have to scroll down. When you first see it you see them from the chest up. Just as you scroll down you find out that they are in their birthday suit from the chest down and the phone starts yelling "LOOK EVERYONE! THIS GUY IS LOOKING AT GAY PORN!!!" I guarantee you've never seen someone shut their phone off so fast.

I don't know about 13 but I know one of the main reason's my parents got my brother his first phone year or two ago (must have been 14 or 15, before he started driving) was so he could call my parents to come and get him after after school activities. With FFA meetings and stuff that can occasionally last until 7-8 o'clock at night it was really nice for him to be able to call when the meetings were about over so dad could head in to get him. Him having a phone has also come in very handy since then multiple times (he's almost 17 now), weather he's broke down on the side of the road and doesn't have the right tools on his truck (yes, he carries his own tools) or to let the parents know where he's going to be after school or if something unexpected comes up.

So there are reasons for SOME kids to have phones - most of them certainly don't have any reason to have one besides to yak back and forth with their friends when they should be concentrating on school work. There are a few who do have real reasons to have one though .
