Horse pictures

The horses were finally at the barn today and I had the camera with me so I though I would snap a few pics for y'all .

Plentycue, the ranches horse. I'm thinking he's 36 but I could be a year or two off...somewhere in his 30's though. Starting to get his winter hair in though you can't really see it in these pictures he's starting to get feathering on his legs .

"You're lucky Daddy is watching..." ( This is the only good picture of Trouble I could get, he wouldn't stay far enough away from the camera!)

Nina, I was just going to comment that he looks very, very wise ... I'm sure he's seen alot in his years... Very pretty horses though... Then again I've never seen an ugly horse before ...

Yep, he's getting to be pretty old! Last one of the original 6 that were here when we came. Though for the last 10 years or so it had been just Plentycue, Little Big, and Jake. Both Jake and Little Big died a few years ago.

Harley rarely trys to herd them. Once and a while especially if they start running he'll take off after them. Only a couple times has he nipped Trouble, and that was partly Trouble's fault . Occasionally he'll come up to Harley and just keep walking toward him with Harley backing away and he'll just keep following Harley. And Harley doesn't like that so he'll get a good nip on the nose.

Best vacation I ever had was a week spent on Ranch 63 in Montana. We rode horses for a week straight. The countryside was so breathtaking - rode up to 9,500 feet and hiked to 10,500 feet. No TV, no computers, no phones. It was just a week in heaven.

Of course, my butt hurt for two weeks once we got home, but it was a great vacation.

Thanks for the pics, Dino. You brought me back to a wonderful place.

I think those dude ranches take pride in making people sore . I really should learn to ride, I could ride Trouble he needs broke anyway. I have no one to teach me though! Only person in my family that knows how to ride is my dad and well, I'm pretty sure he doesn't have the patience to teach me to ride .

Hayseeds and water... or worms and water...

Sorta answers the question about how you get down from a horse, though.

Nope! Hasn't been ridden in geez, probably 10 years or better. I've said this before but the former owner (this horses owner, died a couple years back) banned the horses from being used to chase cows probably 15 years ago or better. So since they couldn't be used to work cows, they never got ridden outside of when the boss's grandchildren were here. And that was like once every few years (then they stopped ridding all together as the kids got older). Trouble gets ridden once in blue moon as he's actually my cousin & uncle's horse. Pretty much all they do is wander around their pasture and mow down grass.

Plentycue is a woman's horse anyway. He's fine with any female on him but if any male (outside of a kid) gets on him he'll blow up (if you manage to get on him). Of course that was 10 years ago, he probably doesn't have the energy anymore to blow up . Doesn't mean he wouldn't fight you the whole time.
