Quick- Palytoxin

I had 3 single bam bams in a bowl with no water. I scooped them out so they moved around a bit. (hopefully not squished much) Well my son put one of his fingers in it the bowl and then in his mouth. Thoughts please

With the zoanthus sociatus there is not much toxin. you should be OK but monitor motor movement as well speech, heart beat and temperament. It is unlikely there is poison but you are more than welcome to give me a buzz 314-330-8729 cell and watch for the things I said. If they are visible then I would visit the ER.
You might want to call no, if any Dr.'s are experienced with the poison. good luck my man and if you need info or the Dr. needs itI have plenty of info to forward.

Mr. Yuck !
The first action when a person has ingested a toxic substance is to consult with the local poison control center at the universal telephone number in the United States - (800) 222-1222.

You might also post in the south florida local forum. When my wife came back form Fla. with a rash from a sponge, we inquired down there since they are more familiar with that stuff.

I'll add in, that it takes a lot to make them "spit" and that if it was in a concentrated bowl with out much water from all the experiences I have heard it would have taken effect pretty quickly. THIS DOES NOT MEAN do not monitor him or figure he's in the clear but hopefully it will give you some peace of mind Justin.

And by the way I called poison control about four months ago to talk to them about Paly toxin and nobody knew anything about it! all they could do was look it up on the screen and read the same thing you can read anywhere on the net

Let us know what happens dude and now that the holidays are over you guys need to come over, It's my turn to cook!

the main problem is they know nothing about it. It is like calling SWB and saying my shoe is not getting a dial tone-they are stumped??

I think he should be ok as this polyp contains very, if any, little toxin and it was not fragged.

I have plenty of articles that I can forward to any doctor in case it turn might bad. I have also talked with Justin and made him aware of this-just in case it might happen. He should know within minutes from now as it will not take long-about 30 min to get the symptoms. It is a 3 year old so FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCE and I am not a Dr. but he should show signs within 20-30 minutes if ingested orally.

Let me know if I can help out more!

Thanks everyone for the quick reply. Thanks phil for the help. For anyone curious, phil whom, if I had to guess, has some of the most knowledge of this situation as anyone around knows his love of zoas. He explained not only that he has been in situations like this himself but witnessed it plenty of times as well.

Here are my notes
Watch his temperment- Mainly motor skills like watching for stumbling drunk like, slurring speach.
Watch for spikes in temperature
Monitor heart rate as much as possible
Eat some starchy foods

Ingested in eye, mouth, etc...would show up very quickly. Mainly in the first 30 minutes.

This group has a very low toxin level and would most likely not release unless cut or ripped.

Thanks again everyone

i bet that those are a frag from someone, therefore not having been in the ocean within the last year or ever. they probably dont even contain the toxin or very high levels of it.
