RP and HK trip

I just got back last Monday from my 10day vacation in RP and HK. Not much to see in RP as far as fish stores but I visited a couple of aquarium strips in hk.

There were a two aquarium strips in hk one is in Kowloon called "Fish Market" located between Mongkok and Prince Edward MTR station. The second one is called "Aquarium Plaza" in Hong Kong side located near the end of Tai Koo MTR station.

Here are some of the pictures in the Fish Market in Kowloon.

One of the reason why I went to HK is to see if I can bring home some equipments specially a big skimmer, but I was disappointed when I see the price for a bk200 internal skimmer for HK$15500 which is about $2,155US. That is about $600 more compared to what I can get at PA.

I was also interested to find a cone type skimmers like the ATB skimmer but didn't find one.

However, I saw a Tunze 6100 for hk$1200. I think thats about $166US only.

Here are some FW pictures.

Hi Mike, it has to be a dried fish before you can bring it with you. And still you have to declare it.

Here is one of the smallest skimmer I ever seen. It is about 8" long and about 2.5" in diameter. But saw one about half that size in Aquarium Plaza HK side.

Wow, $180+ fish for $34. They just just keep them in a basket on the street. That's so different.

I just came by from HK this past Tues. I didn't get a chance to go to the fish market, but I did go to Sai Kung for fresh seafood.

If I knew a fellow reefer was over there, I would've tried to meet up with you since I was stayed in Kowloon as well.

I was in hk from 9/21 to 9/24. I stayed at Ramada Hotel in HK side. Very nice hotel that I would be please to recommend as long as you don't mind the old surrounding buildings. How long did you stay in hk?

I stayed at BP International in Tsim Sha Tsui. It was a nice hotel and reasonably priced, but really small. I stayed in HK for about 7 days and Phuket, Thailand for about 5 days.

I had thought about going to the aquarium strip, but I think I would've walked away buying something only to try and smuggle it thru customs and get caught. Rather than trying to resist temptations, I decided to take the safe route and not to go.

NB-R, Fishes were healthy eventhough they are in small baskets. Didn't notice any desease or dead fishes at all. I also saw some large 8 to 12" orange shoulder tangs about 30 to 40 of them in an 8'x2'x2' pool and all were doing fine. Most tanks are pack with fish of the same type. Also, most of the tanks I saw does not use skimmer at all. They only use bioballs and/or denitrator reactors with bioballs inside the chamber. Don't know how they do it but thats all they use for filtration.

Perry, you have any pics of the smaller skimmer or write down the manufacturer of it?

Why not just buy it there and ship it back yourself? I've had livestock overnighted to me before from China, Taiwan, and Korea before. HK should be doable.

Hi Eric, didn't got the name of the smaller skimmer. But you might wanna ask "BenR7132" to check the price and brand name of the skimmer. His going to HK next week.

I thought about that, but I was worried they might not ship the merchandise after I pay them.

Here are more pictures I took at the Aquarium Plaza in HK side. I was not able to get a lot of pictures here cause there was I guy in uniform that was following me everywhere I go in the Plaza.

A building behind the McDonald is the Aquarium Plaza

Below this building is the Aquarium Plaza.

Talking

Cool pics!
I bet when I go there, I will want to spend a bunch of time at these stores and my wife will just be bored to death!

She'll have to go purse shopping, while I check out reef stuff
