When I was diving in Hawaii our divemaster picked up an Angler that was the size of a basketball that no one noticed sitting there. Watching that dude try to swim away quickly was quite amusing (I think I used a little extra oxygen out of my tank from laughing under water). They sure are cool looking animals.

Anglers are so cool to watch. I have two anglers i n a 29gal. I hope they will start eating frozen foods. These guys will eat anything that comes there way. I had a 7" Violet goby that I had for abot two years and I but him in with my grey angler thinking that the goby was way to big for the angler which is only about was 2".
I woke up late in the night to check up on them and saw the anglers belly about to rip from being so big. His body so deformed. The 7" goby was curled in his gut, I was so mad. I was afraid that the angler would die from such a big meal but it did just fine.

Bio-Mass,

Just as a bit of warning - I also have two frogfish and really wished I could put the two of them together. There isn't a ton of frogfish information out there, but I researched everywhere on the Net and then contacted the expert crew at WetWebMedia with that question. Both in reading and from their opinions, it seems most folks believe putting two frogfish together isn't a great idea. There is a decent chance that one will decide the other one looks like dinner...possibly resulting in one or both of them dying. I decided not to risk it.

Nah, anglers are pretty easy. The trick is to make sure they are eating and to never use copper.

Is there any possible tank mates that can go with em? I was gonna get one about a month ago to go into my Eel tank, but alot of people said my eel might start messing with it when it got bigger. I dont think he actually would, but just wondered if anyone has kept an angler with anything else, that hasnt been eatin.

I actually have my Red Angler in with my Brazilian Golden Moray with no problems. This is a temporary situation though. Here's a thread with some pics from another forum...http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...hreadid=264599

So after reading this and a few other posts, I'm wondering if the scorpion toads my LFS has aren't frog fish...

They look some what like tha sargassum (sp?) I think.

Reef cherie,

I have my two frogfish seperated in the tank with eggcrate. I read and researched it also. I wouldn't take a chance having the two together with out some type of barrier.

Bio-Mass - Oh! Glad to hear that! I may be about to do the same thing, as the other tank setup isn't happening as quickly as I'd hoped for and my 1.5" black frogfish is getting tired (I can tell ) of his current cramped quarters!

I was thinking of seting of a tank maybe 5gal tank and hang it off the side of my 29gal. and put one of the anglers in there. That way I can add something that swims around. Looking for hob refugium plans. Still thinking about it.

Here's another one of criccio's frogfish - where he's gotten a great shot of the lure out!

Actually Fishy1, your pics of Dudley are what drove me to get my red one. I found your thread when you first got it and thought it was awesome. Glad to hear you still have him. I hope mine retains his red coloration as well, so far so good.

Hope all these little guys live a long, long time Criccio I still miss my white warty Lumpy. He looked just like Lefty's in the pics above. I'll be moving Dudley out of his 10 gallon into ta 29 in a few days. Going to put some frags from my 75 reef in with him. Hope he'll like his new home!
