I hear back on my tank today. If it is doable, I guess I will put in my order and ask for the outside dimensions of the tank. This will allow me to start building the stand. I think once I get it built, I will have a much better idea of how I big I will want my different options to be.

In general, How tall should you make your baffles?

Baffle height is different for each sump, but I have a general rule with a 16" tall sump. With water entering from both ends and flowing to the middle, the refugium baffle is 13" tall with 1" deep teeth, making the water height 12". The bubble trap baffles after the skimmer zone are 9" tall.

If your skimmer can sit in 9" of water, that's good. If that is too deep, a small stand can be placed beneath the skimmer to lift it up to the proper depth.

This is the one I am getting. I guess I need to check on that.

Mark did you order that H&S yet?

That is what i love about Recirc skimmers. no need to worry about water depth etc.

I have a EX1 recirc but i have it in my sump and feed it with a MJ900.

I'm pretty sure Jimdogg gravity feeds his skimmer from his overflow

I got a used model for a great deal, I could not pass it up. I looked at recirc models, but I did not want to limit my space as have to get all my stuff under my stand. I had to make a choice and this deal came up; it was too good to pass.

I am going to get together with Jim when he gets back. I would love to come by one of these weekends to pick your brain as well.

Sounds good I'll be back in Sac on the 8th!

Mark, before you build your stand, keep in mind how much the height will affect your equipment.

After building 3 stands, I finally decided to build my final stand 40" tall. IMO that is the best height for a stand. It also help so that you don't have to bend over to look at the tank.

See you guys when I get back!

Jim

Sweet. I should have all the details worked out on the tank by then. I have seen a lot of nice stands lately and I am still trying to design my canopy. I still do not know how I want to do the front of it; either a hinged front or doors.
