Joseph,

The nylon mesh you used with your 1/4" metal rod for the "suicide prevention" do you know what it is called and/or where it can be found? Googling and my lack of knowledge has led me to a dead end. I like the look and design of that much more than using eggcrate.

So, when you going to fabricate a wavebox from scratch? ; )

I love reading this thread over and over. My wife just doesn't get it.

Lee

Lee: The following thread should point you to multiple sources. My netting came from jimsflies here on RC but there are many other commercial sources availible...

As for building a wavebox... I prefer my tank remain in one piece rather than having sea-sickness inducing motion. Thanks for the kind words.

Hi Joseph,

It looks stunning, and is getting better and better every day. I use an old FTS of your tank as my desktop. Would you be willing to post a recent one sized to 1280x1024? I should say, 1280 wide, with the height being whatever it turns out to be.

Joseph,

Just stumbled across your thread. I have no idea what to say other than wow. Its amazing what can be done with PVC these days! Beautiful tank and I'm as jealous as I can be.

Amazing, you are very talented, but...

what the hell do you do and what do people do to make so much money to spent on this hobby. Your project was over 50,000 for sure, were do you find the money, and time

The money question was answered recently, might want to take a look a few pages back

Cheers

CW from the OC: Thanks and I'll see what I can do for you.

Eric: Thank you very much.

bina770: Unfortunately, I'm consistently amazed how individuals look at a project like this and the resulting beauty only to be focused on and enamored with the monetary costs involved or time spent bringing it to fruition. Interesting, this is... in a sad sort of way. So... what do you think of the recent full tank photos and what they depict?

thor32766: I may be going out on a limb here but thank you very much.

Marc: Thank you too.

Joseph.

Well then... Here's a full tank shot taken today and oddly enough, it's 1280 pixels wide.

I'm just in shock. Watching this tank become what it is today has been such a pleasure.

Joe, how did that blue carpet work out? Is that it tucked in the far right corner? If it is, can you get a good shot of it for us?

Have to admit that what I love about this tank is that the corals have grown so much that it looks like a giant wall of coral, but if you look at the beginning of the tank, the live rock isn't set up like a wall.

How about a photo looking down the channel between the rock? Of course, the angle may distort the photo but if it works would be cool. I bet the fish love swimming through that with the branches of SPS up above.

Also, the blending of branching, thick lobed, and clustered SPS provides an awesome texture to the tank. For someone so engineering oriented and able to "manufacture" stuff your artistic ability as well is realy nice.

This is also what happens to a tank that isn't constantly fragged to make "$200" frag packs for sale!! ; )

Any plans to design other equipment? What are you thinking of now to make?

And Marc if you look there are a few inches of space in the middle yet to fill in. ; )

I just looked again, and there's some space on the upper right as well. Whew! Looks like the tank can stay up for another 6 months.

Joseph, You should be very proud. That tank is VERY impressive. Perhaps I'm even more impressed as I started my tank build about 6 months after you and mine looks pitiful, still. I have followed your thread for all these years and "borrowed" some of your ideas too. Thanks. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us. You are truely an inspiration for all of us. Thanks again Joseph. Have a great weekend!

Rock Anemone: Thanks for the kind words and I'm pleased you have enjoyed the ride too.

Marc: Definitely, the tank has filled in greatly but there is in fact "some" space remaining for the fish to swim. Unfortunately, the photo has a 2-dimensional look that flattens everything out. For instance, the whole left side section is actually an upward sloping wall with relatively large amounts of open water space in front. The right side is another story though. Here, it's pretty much filled in except for the channel where the corals haven't been able to grow due to the high flow from the Penductor. You can see this if you look close. Maybe that's the "coral growth inhibiting" action needed. Just blast high flow right above them all and they will stop going surface bound.

Detritivore: I hear you but I really don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

Jonathan: ... And the Green (yellow) Slimer at the right too.

wonrib00: Read back a few pages. Unfortunately, it didn't survive.

Lee: As mentioned above, it's not quite as "a wall" as it appears in the photos but it's getting close. The channel between the two formations is basically a small tunnel now that the Tangs just make it through. It dose widen towards the back though. Unfortunately, a photo wouldn't show much except the Miami Orchid in the front and the blue/purple Stags behind. But... here's a better center section shot that I must say is my favorite part of the tank. Aside from the PVC returns above, I feel it most replicates corals in the wild.

I can sell frag packs for $200. !?!?!? I have and do give out frags (locally) but always try and pull for areas that don't disturb the look of colony corals. This is what I've strived for, look wise, so...

As far as future equipment builds, I've been considering converting my dual Beckett skimmer to a recirculating, needle wheel but only as a means of saving some energy. I'm still in the thinking stage of this so it won't be any time soon.

Robbie: Thank you very much for the kind words and you are very welcome.

m1enbo1: Thank you.

Joseph.

Have you appreciated any problems between the zoas and hard corals around them?

Matt
