Koralia powerhead ?

I have a Koralia 3 pump in my 55 gallon, and I was wondering do you all (that own Koralias) use the endcap on it, or take it off? I know it's for protection, but I've found with the endcap off, it puts out a much wider, better flow....so do you use the protective endcap or take it off? Do I really need it?

I had never heard of it for protection. I always heard it was for narrowing the flow pattern coming out of the pump. I run 2 4s with out it and 1 4 with it.

I just got one yesterday. I'm going to leave the endcap off - the reason I got this pump was for the wide flow (and low power reqs).

I run mine with them off. Then again, I don't think the #2's come with them...

Ever since a snail made his way inside and jammed the propeller, I leave mine on. I had the earlier model which did not come with the end cap.

I leave mine on because I have a lawnmower blenny that loves to sit in there when I shut them off and it would chop him up when I started it back up with him in there. If you never shut them off or you don't have any fish that "perch"
then I probably would leave them off.

Are you talking about the shroud?

So, does that mean you run the propeller bare?

Hmm, that would definitely make them easier for me to clean.

If Phillys "D" played like that every week... they'd be undefeated instead of the Pats'.

Doesn't the end piece suppose to add wider flow?

No, it narrows the flow and takes the V shape out of the flow pattern.

I actually would like a little clarification too.

I think they mean the small plastic tubes that come with the newer models, I cant see no guard as the magnet and prop would most likely fly off on start up.

I put the flow-narrowing-thingamajigs on my two Koralia 3s, I wanted a narrower stream. Without them, I get pretty serious substrate dunes.

It's nice to have that flexibility; I can't think of any other pump that can do that... there are many where you can adjust the flow but not the spread.

There's a cap you can put over the output of the Koralia to narrow the stream a bit. I had one in my box, but I don't use it for my Koralia 2. And I've yet to see any pics with that attachment on it, except for a pic at MarineDepot. Here are a couple links to those.

You're welcome. They must be something they're including with newer models. It's amazing how difficult it is to find pics of those attachments. Probably because most people don't use them. But they could be useful for some applications.
